Did you get the one long one that also holds the outer cover on?.....

There should be a total of 7 bolts holding the middle drive to the motor, including the long bolt.

There's four bolts holding on the middle drive cover (if this is that modified drive, it has that splined shaft sticking out); there's two close together on the bottom, the forward one needs to be removed...

Lower part of the cover left bolt I believe. It is a long one. I made the that same mistake myself. did a little head scratching and got on the site to find out.

The bolts being pointed at by the 7 white arrows hold the middle drive on.

I hope you drained the middle drive first. Even after you drain it, there'll still be some in it, and it's usually some pretty foul smelling stuff.

Yes, good pic. One upon a time, I bought an "XS11" middle drive from ebay. I never figured out what I belonged to, but it was missing that bolt hole at the round cover area. I thought maybe it was from a Special model. It leaked and leaked all the way from denver to montana and back. Then I figured it out. You would have thought I would have figured it out when I had a bolt left over as I installed it! Stupid is, as stupid does (Forest Gump)

I don't know if you have a manual, but if you don't, there is a drain plug that drains the cavity in the main case that the middle drive came out of. The plug is located in a recess on the bottom of the main case. It will have gunk in it, and you might as well flush it out before you fill it back up with new oil.

Understood he was talking about the drain plug, but why would you flush something you're about to remove? Get it in your hands and clean it there.
