I tried it, and it works!!!

I thought you all were kidding about the Aluminum foil. So, since I am rebuilding my '79, and have a LOT of rust, I gave it a try. Here are the results: http://jimphoto.freeprohost.com/Yamaha/yam040.JPG raw, and http://jimphoto.freeprohost.com/Yamaha/yam041.JPG after about 20 minutes. Thanks for the great suggestion.

I tried this today, I had a mirror that had some pitting and rust on it. Took a can of Coke, poured a little in small bowl, and the rest into a glass of bourbon (an essential step ). Dipped the aluminum foil in the Coke, and it took the rust off in a hurry without scratching or damaging the chrome. NICE!

Hit it with some Simichrome and a buffing cloth after, and it looks fantastic.

          Me too!

Today I had the petcocks off and notice that the label plate was a little rusty. So I had a little lipton tea and tin foil and 3 mins later. Viola!

          It really works!!!!

Of course, it's not going to do anything about the pitting, but damn it took the rust right off.
