  • Gasket set

Ordered the gasket set and guess what, the middle drive housing cap gasket isn't part of the set. Seemed to be made of a rubbery type of material not fiber like the rest. What are we using to make these now gentlemen?

I would use the old one with a little 3 Bond. 3 Bond itself would be sufficient I believe.

      Painting

Unfortunately I had to do some painting in that area so the old one came off with a scrapper. It's so close to the bearing that I'm reluctant to use a product similar to what I used to attach the final drive. Afraid it might squirt into the bearings. I'll head to an auto supply place monday and have a look at what they have. Crap!! It's always the little things that cause the biggest problems.

You can make your own gasket, but according to page 24, Chapter 6, of the manual, <http://www.yamaha-triples.org/library/misc/shaftdrivemanual/ShaftDriveManual.pdf>, it has to be .012 in thick when new.
NAPA sells gasket material, paper hole punches are the right size for the holes, and an Exacto knife will cut the stuff easily. Take a mike with you to the NAPA store, as you never can trust a parts man to know what, exactly, he is selling. I have used cereal boxes for material in an emergency, and not had trouble. Coat the cardboard
all over with Gasgachinch or equal, and they work fine.

I see Phil has the gasket for you. If you end up making one, or need to for another part, the UK XS11 site has a complete gasket library. It gives you a to scale diagram of the gasket you can print out on your printer and use it to make the gasket. VERY nice to have.

No problem Mack, glad to help. Looks like there are still a few new ones in existence.
