    Back on the Road...

Got the rebuilt stator back. I found a large crack in the stator housing going right thru one of the stator mounting holes. Got a used one off eBay (there seem to be a lot of cracked ones out there). Finally back together today, fired up and it's all working. Many thanks to this forum. This was a rather strange charging problem as the tach was working fine and most of the checks in the manual didn't point to a stator problem.

Too bad the rebuilt wasn't right. At least you got it going.

The rebuilt stator is perfect and I recommend them for the quick turnaround ( http://www.tpe-usa.com ). The aluminum housing that the stator bolts into was cracked. This is the right side engine cover and is subject to damage from the bike tipping over. It's a pretty thin casting.

TPE-USA is a ^&@$ing CROOK!! Tim is his name. I had a stator rewired through him and it went bad in just a couple months. It was supposed to have a year warranty. Through EXTENSIVE emailings, he blamed one of his workers that had just gone on guard duty, then he said they don't do these stators any more so he'd just refund my money through Paypal... then after a half dozen emails of trying to get in touch with him over the course of months and months, he never returned another email. No stator and no money.

So.. anyone using this scam artist and his company, good luck!

Oh stator HOUSING. I really need to do a better job at reading the posts and visualizing the problem. The tolerances are pretty tight inside the cover.
