There are 2 Philips screws in the bottom of the reservoir and then that comes off with a twist am pull, it is did friction fit at this point. Then you need to remove the rubber boot from around the end of the plunger. There may or not be a thin plastic washer under that. Next will be a snapring. I remove it with a pick otherwise you will need a thin long reach snapring pliers. Then you can pull/push out the plunger. Done.Nathan

master cylinder
Lee my MC reservoir didn't have screws either it was pressed in place and the long cover screws helped hold it in place. If yours isn't leaking I'd just clean it and leave it alone. I tried to twist and pry mine out and all I accomplished was to cause a leak where one didn't exist before. Steel lake trout line or guitar strings will clean out the holes.mack

On the Special models at least, there are no screws but the ones that hold the cover on, those go through the plastic reservior into the MC body to hold it all down. There is a rubber o-ring around the neck that is pressed down into the MC. you should be able to twist it around some, and then take a putty knife and pry the reservior up. If you can just twist it say 90 degrees, you can uncover the spooge hole and clean it and the supply hole into the MC out without removing the reservior.
AS otheres have stated the kep to pulling the plunger is that bloody little C-clip way down in there. I used two rat tail files, I ground the tips where they go into a file handle down to fit the holes in the C-clip and used those to work it out.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

The '78 (and at least some of the '79s) standard master cylinders have the reservoirs with the brass inserts and the two screws inside; all the specials and the later standards have the reservoir held on by the cover screws. There's two versions of the rear master cylinders too; same difference, but I'm not sure where the change came.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
