well fukkit, it's taken 2 pages of posts to find out you are in Vegreville AB and your bike is a 1980 Standard.
If you'd put up a signature line we'd know this from the get-go, eh?
OK then, has the bike always run like sh*t since you've owned it or did it go like that later and if so, was it right after you did something to it?
    There updated.....

as far as the problem its been since day one of me buying the bike but its been getting progressively worse and now the bike wont even start i got my pipes in today im going to put them on after i get off of work so maybe that will help.

If it were me, I'd get the mufflers installed. Reset your mix srews for about 2 turns out from seated, and replace the plugs with new ones.

Has anyone any good ideas about his electrical issues. Electickery and me are not good friends...lol.
Yes I agree put the pipes and pods on before trying to do anything else to the carbs. I found I did have to go up one pilot jet size on mine with the pods installed. I would also try the clear tubing method of checking float heights as well.

Not an electrical guru by any stretch, but I would start at the fuse box. I know he said it lit up when he pulled the brake, but unless the wiring on the bike is seriously and entirely fubar, there is very little chance that one had anything to do with the other. My guess is that he was sitting on the bike at the time and caused enough motion for one fuse to make connection or something like that.

Being that the fuse box is a known weak spot in the sparky system on these machines, that would be my first stop anyway.

well boys she lives ....Went thru the bike and found some connections that were melted and just all around f**ked ...so i got new connectors and did some wiring and the bike fired right up ....its still not running 100% but im EXTATIC so i fired up the bike and it ran and idled long enough for me to set up the ramps and load the bike into the back of my truck so tomorrow its off the edmonton cycle and salvage to be gone thru and fixxed up to run like new again.

              Hi Dez,
taking it to the shop? are you independently wealthy? Or just win big on 6/49?
Betcha those spotty teenage pseudo-mechanics won't know very much about a bike that's old enough to be their dad.

Congrats Dez!!! In the end it always ends up being something simple, its just never simple finding it! To quote a phrase from the movie "Pearl Harbor"...."Victory belongs to the ones who believe in it the most and who believe in it the longest". You are a believer!!

As to cheating, well, if all your having them do is adjust the mixture and the synch on the carbs, you stand a chance of them getting that right. Beyond that, you probably already know twice as much as they do about this machine and what makes it tick. Either way, good luck with it!!

Actually edmonton cycle and salvage specialize in old straight 4's ive heard nothin but good from them and when i went in to talk to them i dont think i saw anyone under 40 workin there ....Seemed like lots of old school wrenchin goin on .... Got to watch a 71cb 750 hit 84HP on the dyno didnt think you could squeze that much out a old 750 i guess time will tell when i get the xs back

and yes indepentently wealthy would best describe me out of those 2 options i guess

                    Dez,

I'm sure it will be fine. I have to farm out stuff these days because I'm never home. I dropped my bike in the shop, and when I finally got it back, it screams like never before! The downside is that there is no one fussier than me. There's always something not done to my liking. Sometimes I need to just let it go.

I hope that they are the exception that proves the rule.

this was a great post - quite entertaining what a riot

Hey Dez: I feel for ya man - I was there a couple years ago & hey if a guy can just go out & get laid whenever he wants I would think you have it made. - I'm an old married guy & don't have that 'get laid card". Sounds like that shop is the place. Lucky they have that in your area. Hope it all works out - Dan

I know the shop dez is taking his bike to the owner is an older honda mechanic and know these bike as he was around when they were new and as far as pricing he is very reasonable this was the place i had my new tires mounted and balanced and cost me only 35 each which was way less than anybody else.
