Couldnt kill the bike and had to disconnect battery

    Chewie, this may be your problem. If you bought RS catalog #275-1548, that switch is a normally-closed switch. You need a normally-open switch #275-1547. Looked it up on the shack's website.

      I posted a reply but apparently it didnt take.
      I got a 79 special and it has a black wire that runs to that screw from the wires entering the housing. The blue/white wire is also used.
      Davinci is right.
      I dont know if they color code the buttons, but Ive seen black buttons that are "off by default" and red ones that are "on by default" (or insert actual technical term).

        Actual 'technical terms' are

        Abbreviated NO - Normally open - at rest there is no continuity through the switch, the contacts are open. Push the button, contacts close.

        Abbreviated NC - Normally closed - at rest there is continuity through the switch. Push the button, contacts open.

          Yup - my switch is closed... I need to read the fine print better next time...Im going to radio shack in a bit to pick up the correct switch, then hopefully I can put this problem to bed. Thanks guys.
