Last summer when i adjusted the valves, i had a problem with the front center bolt on the cover. This is on my 80 MNS. I loosened the bolt, but could not get it out past the cross bar just above it. I ended up having to cut the bolt, and replaced it with a piece of allthread, and nuts and washers. I looked everything over up front and could not find a reason for this. There didn't appear to be any sign of things being bent. No cracked paint or anything. Has any one came accross this problem, and if so, what did you do to correct it?

yep that front bolt is a bugger to get out,
the only way i know is to loosen the bolt leaving it in
the valve cover, once all the other bolts are out u can lift
the valve cover and remove the bolt, ive tried
using a smaller bolt but the thread wasnt long enuff to hold it down
without it either coming loose or leaking.pete

Yep, it ends up rubbing on the frame every time for me to. I like your solution, only, I would think the valve cover will not come off over the stud. So if/when you need to pull it off again, you will need to pull the stud out before you pull the valve cover.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I think I remember reading about folks removing the engine frame bolt, either the back one or front one, and then being able to tilt the engine to get access to that bolt!? But a lot of trouble for sure...friggin' engineers oopsed on that one!
