  • Brake lines

I have a source for simple black Teflon/stainless brake lines for the 1980 XS1100G and whichever models that would be the same. What would be a good/fair price to ask?

I would have a bunch made up and sell them for $160.00 for a front/rear set if there was a resonable demand.

The rear would be a straight line from master to wheel cylinder eliminating the steel coupling currently in between the two flexible lines.

160 bucks sounds pretty expensive compared to what you can get them for from coastguard on ebay.

        Hey there BG,

Not wanting to put a damper on your plans, but as an example www.helusa.com sells 3 line kits for $147.00. The front lines of ours do not have to be 3 lines, but can be 2 lines all the way from the MC to the calipers without the use of the junction behind the fork name plate.

I had the Craig( fellow at helusa) make a custom set for me which also used a single line for the rear without the metal section. And I was able to get GREEN colored ones to match/compliment my paint scheme.

So..just saying that you might want to check around for what folks can get and for what prices so you can be competitive! JAT!

I'd say TC has a good point. There are sources that go for less already, and HELUSA as I understand it is pretty much a name brand.

Now personally I wouldn't go with the only 2 lines up front thing, I kinda like the single line down to the triples and splitting there, but that's just a personal preference not a technical thing. I do like the thought of getting rid of the hardline in the back, but my back brake works so well anyways that I can't see bothering to replace it, just the fronts.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check with the manufacturer and see what kind of price break can be had at various quantity levels. The price I paid was for a single set first time he made them @ $140 my cost.

The top link is brake lines for the specials, and the XJ's from my reading of the listing. The second I'm not sure on, it might be for either one, but it doesn't specify. I forget but with the lines from coastguard1975 they are a bit of a problem either with standards or specials, having something to do with the orientation of the end connectors.

not sure what ur point is? :-)

i contacted coastgaud last nite, he'll sell the front brake
line for either the special (21inch) long or the standard (17 inch)
long for his stated price. not sure about his fittings,
maybe some1 who has bought them previously can chime in.

Someone on here got them and found that the ends are not at the right angles to go on easily either for the special or for the standard. They can be fitted to the bike, but it takes a bit of work to do it IIRC. I'll probably get mine from him when I do that, but I'm just keeping in mind that for one of the models there was more work getting them on than there should have been.

Now this might have been fixed by now, but I've not heard anything else on the issue.

They are that, and as much lower than any other vender price wise, it's probably worth a little cursing while installing them.
