Blknbyrd, You should be able to find them at a fastner place. You may have to get toward Greensboro or Charlotte to find one but probably be around a quarter apiece. Are you close to Carolina Skydiving? I come that way occasionally, not for jumping ,just visiting. Family there.POTTS CREEK EXPRESS

I would think Fastenal or Gainer should have them or be able to get them, or most other fasteners places.Nathan

Just do yourself a favor and DON'T use stainless. I made that mistake only to find out that they discolor horribly.'81 XS1100 SH

If you still have OEM exhaust, standard nuts are hard to get a wrench on inside that recess in the flange. Ask for 'coupling nuts' as these are about 3X longer. But they may not much cheaper; the metric versions are considerably more expensive than SAE for some reason. McMaster-Carr lists them for about $3 each if you can't find them locally.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

my Yamaha store charged me $8 each.
And no, ordinary hex nuts won't work in those flange recesses, that's why they used those Weird Harold socket nuts instead.
OK, you can pull the studs and use Allen screws instead but that'd put extra wear on the threads in the head.Fred Hill, S'toon

bug i have all eight but they are rusty. how hard are they to get loose? any tricks to loosen them up? vanhump are you talking about swan creek airport? if so about five miles. can watch them jump on my front porch with binoculers. thanks to all for the infoComment

Soak them (or anything like that) with PB Blaster (NOT WD-40) and let it sit for a little bit. You can try adding heat after that (running the bike might work) and even beating on them a bit with a hammer. Once you get them off, you can use your favorite rust remover to clean them up, and even paint them if you like. Then, touch the studs with anti-sieze to prevent having to do this all over again next time.1980 XS850SG - Sold
