  • Just checked in on this thread after getting your PM. Very cool stuff going on here man! I especially like the rear sets and that air intake. The relocated ignition switch is neat too! You can get a small bicycle speedometer that will got to 200 MPH to give you some indication of speed without ruining the clean mono-gauge look. They are inductive off a magnet somewhere off the wheel and can be tuned to accuracy with a gps (err, pay no attention to the max speed reading...I will not incriminate myself):

But I gotta say, I really dislike the seat right now (aside from the fact that it is not covered). I think you really ought to look into getting a cafe style seat base for it to complete the look you are going for. I think you might always have a taste of cruiser if you don't change it. I haven't taken my two up off yet, as my wife insists on riding along, but I have worked it over pretty heavily, and still do not like it. But just my .02. Check out http://www.roccitycafe.com/store.php for a few options for well made products. I have gotten seats from Sean and they are first rate. I think it would really complete the look you are trying for.

    Really nice work, though!
Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. • I may have to steal that idea about the bicycle computer. I was also thinking that I might put one of those tiny MikesXS ones on the side of the tach. Kind of like the BMW headlight look.

I agree I am not sold on the seat just yet either, but I can get the cover done for free so I am going to give it a try anyway to see how it looks. I have an idea that may make it look not so cruiser-like. Hopefully I will have that done this weekend, I''ll let you know next week.

      • Got my seat covered. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out, seeing that it was the first motorcycle seat my mom has ever done! The color is really close, just the flash makes it look a little more pink.

        • Wow! I love what you did with that seat. Cafe look, but still a functioning 2-up seat. Nice bike!

            • I've been thinking of options for my seat, as my redneck seat cover that came on the bike tore last fall so I replaced it with another, using a slightly different material.

Finally found from info from another member here that Saddlemen still makes a cover and foam kit for my bike that looks pretty good. I'm figuring on ordering it later this spring and changing it out before my summer rides (I'm gonna keep my current foam though, cause if I don't like the saddlemen setup I'll take the current foam down and get it done using it, as it's pretty comfy really already, and I think it's not stock as it is but I'm not sure.

              • Well I think I am pretty much done. Just put the mirros on last night and I managed to snap two pics today before my camera died. It's all legal to take on the road now so I just have to wait for a nice day and I can take it out and see if it will stop smoking after a few (hundred) kms.

I think I will put the "Maxim" badges back on the side covers and my new blade style fuse block should be here Monday. I think I also should put the Yamaha tuning forks badge on the sides of the tank.

Got to throw one in of how it looked when I got it. I'll get some better pics soon

Nope not R6 lights, just some china cheapies.

Well here is a shot of the front of the bike now that I've got another camera.

I also did a video. I've done just a couple kms of riding but the amount of smoke coming out is a little less i think(or maybe just wishful thinking). I also noticed that it takes longer now for it to start smoking; it starts off with none then gets thicker as the bike warms up. I'll put some more kms on it when I can get out to a secluded spot so that I am not smoking anyone out.
This video is pretty much starting the bike from cold. It was running for about 3 seconds before I realized that I should do a video. You can see the smoke at the end of the clip, the rest is just a quick walk around while waiting for the smoke to start.

The carbs have only been bench sync'ed. I have never heard one of these run inperson and am pretty new to this stuff so if you hear anything out of the ordinary let me know!

                            • OK, I have a question about the tach. I have everything hooked up and the tach works at an idle but when I rev the engine it won't go passed 2000rpm. The engine goes past 2000rpm but the tach won't. Is my tach screwed?

                              • Looks fantastic! I really like what you've done. I like your turn indicators. Cool idea. I have know idea on your tach. I sure someone on here will.
