  • MikesXS emulators

Ok, so I put those $49 MikesXS emulators in my Special leading axle forks. At first, i was worried about them being too small, but they fit the damping rods nicely. Of course, the damping rod compression holes (4) had to be drilled out to 5/16" and two more added, total of 6. I'm using Progressive springs and a 3 1/4" preload spacer.

    These are the emulators...

I'm running 225cc's of 20W fork oil in each leg, and the emulators are at 2 1/2 turns out, where the baseline street setting is 2 turns. I took the bike only for a short ride and I noticed a big improvement immediately. Nice firm action, no diving, good rebound. I'm very happy with this simple and relatively inexpensive mod.

Good job Phil, are you planning on testing different settings or are you happy enough to stay with how you have it set now?

What I'll do is ride it around just the way it is for a few hundred miles and then decide what needs to be done. The way it's set up now is way better than before, without the emulators.

Interesting... my gold valve emulators only needed one more set of holes drilled for a total of 4. They look very similar. I don't know about the spring rates though. Mine came with 2 colored sets one blue one yellow. The one ste was for lighter bikes and the other was for heavier like the xs. I'll see if I can track down the info. I would think the emulators would work just as good as gold valve though. Maybe someone could talk tomike and get the spring rateon the ones that come with the emulators to compare with the gold valve set.

I'm very intresting in reducing the front end dive on braking.

But i have absolutly no idea how you install them.
(i've heard a little bit about them)

An instalation write-up (with pictures)(i like pictures) would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

          Thank you!!!!

Interesting my racetech emulator directions are very similar. I'll dig them out. The bolt on the racetech ones I have look shorter. I wished I had mesured them.

                Thank you!!

It's nice to see ahead of time if its a job i can do.

that's worth a try i would think, and the price is very reasonable.

On our forks, just how many of the 650 parts are interchangable with the 1100's??? MikesXS has a load of new parts...will all this stuff fit/work?? Im looking to rebuild one set of forks from franken bike to go onto 'Sunshine, then rebuild 'Sunshine's for the "Ghost", then have a spare set of forks for whenever i may need them........

Nothing interchanges, the 650 forks are 35MM, ours are 37MM.

Installing Race Tech Cartridge Emulators in a Motorcycle Fork

This article explains this concept pretty well, thought it would be good to share. Must say it has sparked my interest. Thanks bikerphil for starting the thread.

The emulators fit down in the hole. They just sit on top of the rod. My racetech ones were a lot smaller than the forks.
The forks themselves aren't nterchangable but you can use 650 brakes and fenders if you have a standard. I got the 650 fender 2 years ago.

Racetech is a big help I called them told them what I had. They recommended a certin preload and which spring to use and this thing screams in the curves. I would have went the cheap route but no one had tried it yet plus I got nifty racetech stickers for my chinscoop!!! Should be painted soon.
Oh yeah... go to partsnmore they sell the sameparts mikes xs does for the 11
