Possum's are about the only thing I haven't hit on my way to work.
In 20 months my tally is:
8 rabbits, 2 foxes, 1 kangaroo, 1 wombat, 1 echidna, and 1 pigeon.
Only 1 bunny was hit by the bike (pre HID), The rest in my wife's car.

Had a moment of inspiration the other day regarding the RLU's hissyfit after fitting the HID. I realised that here we're talking about the lights drawing less power than the normal bulbs, but in reality, due to the the wiring supplied with the kits, it's only the switching power for the relay that's actually being pulled from the light circuits, which would only be a couple of watts, so no wonder it got so upset!

Just ditch the RLU.

That's the fix, Nathan. I did that the first weekend after fitting the kit. I was just putting the info up there for reference to anyone contemplating the mod so they can get all the news first, instead of encountering mysterious problems after the installation.

Sounds like you need a cow-catcher on the front of your vehicles down there! That's just scary!

I hit a Wombat with a rental car once, just out of a place called Goondawindi, (Eveready may know it). Damned thing rolled up in a ball under the car and ripped the muffler out. Luckily I paid for extra insurance on the car but the rental company were not best pleased. Spoke to a bloke in Warwick a few days later and he likened them to hitting a 50kg rock in the middle of the road.

Wouldnt want to hit a Kangaroo, theyre liable to bounce up and come through the front window.

I was lucky with the roo strike. It blindsided me with an oncoming car, just picked up movement on the far side of the road before the oncoming car's lights obstructed my view. Saw one of the cars lights blot out momentarily meaning something had come across in front of it. I was on the brakes at this point and was probably only doing about 40-50 kph when I hit it. Got it dead centre. Pulled up to check the damage and was thankful it was only a smallish grey. The Astra survived well with only a cracked grill and cracks around where the bumper supports fit behind the front panel. Lucky the airbag didn't go off. The numberplate was a neat U shape but it staightened out alright. It's one of the reasons my wife isn't real keen on me using the bike on this trip. Hence, the HID kit. Makes her feel a bit better knowing I can see where I'm going and what's out there.
I don't think a cowcatcher would be much good over here cause cows are about the only things that stay behind fences and are only rarely encountered. I am looking for a nerf bar for the car to protect the radiator area though.
