<rant> Hose clamps

Man, I can't believe! I went to three different auto parts stores and couldn't come up with 16 corbin clips for my fuel system. These big chain stores have put the little guys out of business, and now the things you used to be able to walk in and ask John for are sold in blister packs for 8 times the price and you wind up buying a bunch of junk you don't need to get what you want.
The only way I was able to find these was in a $7 combo pack that only had 5 per pack and you got 30 other clips that were of different sizes that you don't need </rant>

Hi Mac,
my local bike store still sells hose clips by the each.
But your rant segues back to the "ditch the octy" string.
If you ditched your octy and ran a simple 2-line fuel set-up you'd only need 4 of the bastards.

I use 1/4" automotive fuel line and no clamps. No leaks, ever. I also did away with the octy.
I plugged the 2 front (prime) nipples on the petcocks. Then ran the hoses from the petcocks to the 2 T's, from the T's to the carbs. This way I can run from either or both petcocks.

Gawd! Include the shipping costs ($11+ for a small bubble envelope?) and that's over $2 a clip.
And there's only 10 of them so he's still 6 clips short.

Zip ties work real well for fuel line clamps - especially the tygon stuff. Harbor freight sells a little cable tie gun that makes the job even easier for $6.99.

Use 3/16 Tygon and forget about the clamps.

A suggestion if you're using zip-ties anyplace you may be putting your hands back into...don't cut off the excess. Cutting these, no matter what you use, always leaves a sharp edge that will carve you up next time if you're not careful... damhik. Instead use a pair of pliers, and getting as close to the catch as possible, twist the tail off. This will leave no sharp edges. If the zip-tie breaks when you do this, you need a better quality tie...

And I fully agree with the original post about the new 'packaging'; it really sucks now trying to find some hardware bits, having to buy a bunch of stuff you don't need. You might try an industrial hardware supplier as many of these sell these sorts of parts still as singles.
