Sorry Capton, but I've done that, not only with the idle mixture screws, but with the pilot jet as well. The bits are long enough to get in there. I know, I've done them both.

Probably not the best solution, but I've seen people cut those towers off just above the stuck mixture screw for easier access of removal.2H7 (79) owned since '89
