Are the carb boots actually leaking or do they just look cracked? The boots are actually metal that is coated in rubber. They may be fine (for now) and just not look pretty. To check if they are bad just spray some carb cleaner, wd40, propane, starting fluid or something flammable around the area to check for vacuum leaks. Make sure all the clamps are tight. and see if the RPMs increase as you wet things down.
You can also coat the boots with new rubber just to pretty them up in the mean time. Could save yourself some cash this way...Nathan

I love this forum.....
they are cracked to all get-out.... But I figured they were just rubber!!
I can't believe they're $50 a pop.... No way we can afford to buy 4 new ones...
So, gonna have to run with the ones on their I guess. We've got the carb off, so I'll see if I can gauge the condition of the metal. Two weeks vacation does NOT make a life.

Psh.. 45k miles and looks better than my bike with only 16k....xj as well
As for the boots... get some rubber tool handle mold or liquid electricians tape. Will look nice and works. Someone on the forums hinted me to this. As long as they aren't damaged all the way through this is good.. as in better then 100 bucks for a new set.Last edited by Alan1982XJ; 08-27-2010, 08:04 AM.1982 XJ1100Comment

Search isn't popping anything up... Anybody have a source for part numbers for aftermarket oil filters for the XJ1100? Or do I have to buy OEM?Two weeks vacation does NOT make a life.

XS and XJ use the same oil filter. K&N part number is KN-146. You can get ahold of TC and you can get one of his adapters and then you can use a spin on style oil filter as well.Nathan

Spin on adapter would be ideal. Just looked at the member list, no "TC" listed... So who's TC?
EDIT: nevermind found it. Google is my friend.Last edited by Smash; 08-27-2010, 08:42 AM.Two weeks vacation does NOT make a life.
