I'm having a problem syncing the carbs on my 81 special. I know when cleaning the carbs the idle ports have to be given the needed attention. When I sync the carbs I have to crank the idle adjust screw way too many revs to get the idle to 1000. Then after revving up the engine it takes a while before the idle returns to 1000. I'm guessing I didn't get the idle ports clean in one or more carbs.
Question: Where do the three holes in the carb go? I know one goes through to the pilot screw. Where do the other two originate if different? How can I confirm that the passages are clean? Thanks!

The three tiny holes in the carb throat all link to the pilot jet, and as the butterfly opens, more of the holes are exposed to allow more fuel into the engine. You should be able to spray carb cleaner into the spot where the pilot jet goes (make sure you remove the pilot jet to clean in there) and watch the cleaner come up through the holes.
