not sure of the ohms reading,
but if its playing up the engine will sound like it wants
to start but as soon as u release the starter button
    the engine dies.
you can also join the two wires together to bypass the switch.

1.5 ohms or close to it. I have one sitting here that is 1.6 that I just checked.

Well it is at about 2.3 or 2.4. So that is too high and out of spec correct?

          Hey Nate,

That does sound high. I guess I would expect it to be an all or nothing failure on those. I am no electrical guru for sure though. Its all magic smoke to me.

If your thinking about new coils, you could upgrade coils and elminate that resistor at the same time I would think. It is all down stream of the TCI, so it should not know the difference.

Yes. But do make sure your meter is accurate; it's been my experience that many cheaper meters aren't too good at reading lower ohms values.

I did order the Green coils yesterday but I am just trying to find all my gremlins. I am also having some issues with the PO changing some of the wires on the pickups, but that is a different thread!

If you put in the MikesXS green coils, you eliminate the ballast resistor anyway. Those green coils are 3 ohm coils.

                    Where's the balast resistor?

Still learning about my 81 special. Where is the balast resistor located? I just installed Dyna 3.0 ohm coils. I beleive I can eliminate the resistor to get more spark? Where is it?

The 81 doesn't use the ballast resistor so you might have a hard time finding it
