Does anyone know if an 80 SG three point engine guard would wit a 78E without modifications? TIA

Yes the crash bars will fit.
I just mounted a set on my 79 xs11 special.
BUT, the main engine bolt may not be long enough.
mine was not. so i cut it in the middle and
tig welded in 3/4" of grade 5, bolt shank.
Now it's long enough.
it was 1/2" inch too short, i couldn't thread the nut on over the brackets.1979 XS1100SF Special.78 E motor/carbs, Jardine 4-2 exhaust, XS Green coils, Corbin seat, S.S. Brake lines, Hard cases, Heated grips.
2012 FJR1300 Gen 2. Heli bar risers, R-gaza crash bars, mccruise cruise control.
(2)2008 WR250R. Because kids outgrew others.
2007 Suzuki V-Strom 1000. (Just added 2024) pre-crashed.
1975 Kawasaki S1 250. My first bike. Still have it. NO I'm not selling it!!
Most bike problems are caused by a loose nut connecting the handlebars and the seat!!Comment

+1 on the bolt length. I went to Home Depot and bought a length of all-thread, some SS washers and nylock nuts, and created my own "bolt" for mine. Unfortunately, the way mine fit (not sure if they are all the same), I have to remove the whole right-side guard to get the alternator cover off. The timing cover will come off without removing the guard on the left side though.1980 XS850SG - Sold
