I didn't manage to borrow my friends vacuum synch yet, probably won't be until saturday.
I checked the float levels, they were all over the place. two had to go up two had to go down. I had to adjust a couple floats to make them level.
They are now all set at 25.7 +/-.
I started it up and it ran ok for a minute but then it started to idle at a high rpm again.
It would settle down to just over 1000rpm, but when I revved it a few times it would start to idle high again, about 3000 rpm or so.

Hopefully the problem is the carbs being slightly out of synch.

I found part of the problem.
The fuel filter going to #1 & #2 carbs was causing a vacuum. It appeared ok, but when I removed and blew through, it seemed to be obstructed.

A lot of fuel filters use a paper element, and that paper does not like water. Get a little watery gas in the tank, and they'll plug up pretty quick. Personally I like the NAPA FIL 3027 filters - same as a Wiks 33027. They are a good size, flow well, and use a metal screen element rather than paper, and have a metal housing rather than plastic. They last a long time and work very well.

I'll give those a try. I suppose it is better to use clear hose with it so you can see if fuel is getting through.

I just use regular black fuel line on mine, but a lot of folks like the transparent tygon stuff. I don't think it's as durable as the black stuff, but it works. Whatever you use, just make sure the flow arrow on the filter is pointing towards the carbs. For some reason I sometimes manage to put them on backwards and have to turn them around. It's usually easiest to install them with the fuel lines crossed under the tank such that the left petcock feeds the right carbs, and the right petcock feeds the left. Not only does it make it easier to keep the kinks out of your fuel line, but when you need to access the carbs from the top you have enough line to turn the tank around backwards and set it where the seat usually goes and reconnect the lines.

                  Thanks dbeardslee.
I haven't had a chance to do anything to my bike for about two weeks.
My wife was in an accident and her truck was totaled. Luckily she was ok, the airbag (not my wife, the one on the steering wheel ) deployed and took the majority of the impact. A kid delivering pizza pulled out in front of her from a side road, she was doing 50mph at the time. Luckily he was ok too.
BTW, I really despise insurance companies, they love to drag everything out, I am still waiting for a settlement for my truck, plus they would only pay for a rental up to four days ago. I had to find another vehicle and pay for it myself while I wait for the insurance company to get their act together.
                  Sorry for the rant.
Thanks for the tips on the fuel filters and hose, I still need to do that.

                    Blade,

This may be a little late, but, they can tell you they will only pay for whatever they want to, but tell them your attorney will be calling, or actually have one call, and you will be amazed at what they all of a sudden will cover. Now this is assuming the pizza guy was at fault and it is his insurance that is paying. I'm sure your lovely lady (the airbag?) had some pain, soarness. Not that I condone this attitude about it, but you can tell them she is still soar and ache, so you think she needs to go see a doctor and probably a specialist for her back which will require some therapy for sure. You might find them in quite a hurry to have your case closed out.

Bottom line is, they are on the hook for your rental until they pay out on the truck. Their policy limitations with their client has no bearing on their obligations to you with the exception of the top end limit on the liability policy.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

                      Hi DGXSER
I finally got a hold of their claim manager yesterday and told her I was tired of arguing with them. I said to her, if something doesn't happen soon I was going to call the Dept of Insurance. She told me they would have an adjuster look everything over and have an answer by Monday.
I think the personal injury is a separate claim to the auto claim.
The insurance company called the vehicle rental company and told them they stopped paying for the rental. The rental company called me and said I could still use the car, but I would have to pay for it myself.
The insurance company said they only cover for three days after they give me an offer for the vehicle.
I just find it amusing that the company that is paying me for my vehicle, are the ones determining the value of the vehicle. I even had my insurance company adjuster do an assessment of the value, which was a lot higher, and the other company said their original quote was still right.
BTW, I only had liability on the truck, so I am doing all the legwork my self.
If I had full coverage this would be done by now and I would have received a bigger check for my truck.
They are just taking advantage because they know I only have liability and my insurance won't fight for me.
I understand this doesn't belong in this part of the forum, but it might be useful information to someone with liability coverage on an XS11/XJ11.
