You can go ultra-ghetto like I'm doing it and run the stock V-stacks with foam filter element wrapped around the front... I've had great performance from them. Look pretty ugly though...

I just wanted to keep the stock V-stack length, So I didn't want to just put pods on there. But after chopping my frame, I didn't have anymore room for the stock box etc.

im using foam uni filter pods,
they slide over the v stacks nicely without cutting,
seems to have improved the low and mid range power.

Do you just sort of clamp them on to the funnel-looking part of the V-stack...? Do they get all "crunched" up or anything in there? That rubber is pretty soft. I'd rather use those uni pods than my uni (uni brand sheet foam) "fabricated" pods...

Just hope your petcock don\'t leak any fuel on the foam filters, someone posted a picture on here of that and they were disolving the foam.

already had my needle valve fail on one of my carbs and completely soak the foam... it was fine. Just a little discolored, but it was already getting dirty anyway...

cheap pods

Hi ,

It seems the pods give various experiences. I am thinking that maybe the peops with old carbs, have trouble, me with the late carbs, did not have any trouble .

I hated my air box. The take off initially took more than an hour. No way to that,,, is what I say. I can pull the carbs in fifteen mins now with the easy pods if I need to.

I put the pods from georgefix on, cheapies, theyre ok, no probs at all like I was warned of.

They seem a little thin on the filter media though, so maybe someone can recommend something to improve that. The bike runs fine, with no apparent tuning probs although I did discover a hiccupp when I ran into the seven thousand range, but that speed is way way past where I usually quit. I am thinking that maybe with the lack of crossover exhaust, hardley short muffs, 110 mains with stock pilots, and freebreathing pods, maybe I am a little shy of fuel at seven k.

I will try to figure out what thats about when I get the rest of the stuff perfected.

Pods are magic. When I first got my XS11SG the carbs were always acting up.
Remove, teardown, clean & reassemble many times and every teardown began with 30 minutes of knucklebusting, blood & bandaids to get that accursed airbox out of the way.
Then I took the airbox off and installed four UNIpods in it's place.
Those pods must be magic, ever since I put them on the carbs have worked great.

ive been running pods pretty much
since ive had my bike 5 years, not only is it
easier to remove the carbs, i can stick my hand
in from behind and adjust the mixture screws and
sync the carbs with the tank still in place.


hey Tadtl1, i agree with you in that the later carbs are
best for pod installation cause the float vents on the
later carbs are situated on the back of the carb bell,
the earlier model carbs with the vent tubes really need
to be attached to the air box.

Velocity stacks!

The cheep filters work great if you use velocity stacks. This is what I have done. PVC pipe turned down to the right size, with a piece of plywood cut to clamp them all together. I used the stock upper air-box mount, so the back of the carbs are supported. I also mounted a fuel rail to the bottom to clean up the fuel line routing. A few screws and a couple of bolts is all it takes to remove the complete system.

Hi Pete,
nah, using just the stacks with pods on their ends never occurred to me at the time.
Since then my stock airbox has gone on to a fellow list member to replace the one he lost to a fire.
BTW, my UNIs are starting to deteriorate and I plan to replace them.
Gonna switch to MikesXS pleated oval pods, they work well on my son's XS750 and I like the XS embossed on their ends.

well this thread turned out to be very helpfull for myself and others also i would hope. i have now decided to go with the pods. maby mikes...but if i buy the cheapos i can afford other things i need as well...hmmm will be buying pods toight tho so thanks alot everyone.

btw. nice stack set up. ill have to mimic that maby
