Another Cam Chain Tensioner Question?

Yeah, I know it's probably been covered......a lot!
But, I have a S-L-OOOO-WWW Dial-up connection,
I can smoke half a cigarette in the time it takes to load the post new thread window, LOL

it looks like the 'cap' blew out of the end of thd CCT,
quick fix? jb weld? silicone?

Yep, just clean the end out good and put a glob of RTV in there, you should be fine.

I bought a new cap at the local bike shop for $5, and added a dab of RTV around the outside edge when I installed it.

I have one that some one stuffed a oil galley plug in from a V8 engine or something. Looks like a very small freeze plug.

IIRC, new plugs are still available. I have heard that you can install them with silicone to make them stay put and not seep oil.

Other option is to shop ebay for a Venture or Vmax tensioner (they will probably come in pairs) which is automatic and a direct bolt in replacement. Its designed in such a way as it won't leak. I posted up a thread about the replacement somewhere on xs11.com. Just be VERY sure you know what you are doing when you put it in, or adjust the cam chain for that matter. It can and will bite you. There are several threads on the issue, and are pretty explicit about what not to do. If you aren't comfortable doing it, find or pay some one who is.

Do you still have the cap, or did you loose it? I wouldn't put JB Weld in the hole - it comes in handy for checking how much adjustment is left on the tensioner. Lots of members rtv the plug in so it won't leak, but you need the plug. As far as that's concerned, you could probably rtv a suitable sized substitute in. Or if you're not concerned with access, you could always JB Weld a dime to the end of it - guaranteed to improve the value of your bike - by $.10 .

I have adjusted the CCT before with no problems, I did my homework first!
Oh Thank Heaven for Channel Eleven.....

No the plug is AWOL, I do intend on replacing the unit, but right now the 11 is the only thing I have on wheels except for the Kenworth,
I'd rather pay for gas in the 11, the KW only gets 6.9 MPH loaded

Good catch, Bug . Actually 6.9 sounds pretty darn good. My 379 only got around 5.5 with a load on - less in West Virginia .

One thing you might check is make sure your crank case breather tibe is not plugged. If it is, it will blow pressure out that plug and could cause other oil leaks also (like the half moon seals and the cam cover gasket).

id also check the threads on the tensioner
havent stripped, if the plunger has moved it
could pop out that plug.

slowpoke was my cb handle when I first started driving truck...
brick on the fuel pedal, downhill w/full load in trailer 62 MPH max speed

DB: my fuel milage will get to 'round 7.4... if it ever stays above 50 degrees. LOL
