Larry, Chop, let me do a search mission in my garage for these and I'll send you both a set of pics and critical dimensions. It's been a while since I looked at these, but there isn't much to them. The biggest issue may be sourcing the 'valve', which looked to be a spring-steel precision disc. But that may be a common 'hardware' part if you know where to look. The spring shouldn't be anything too special (in fact, they furnish two for 'tuning').

Give me a day or three....

Ok, dug the emulators out of storage. First thing, no anodizing needed; these are 'gold' because they're made out of brass! Not a bit of aluminum anywhere...

The main body and the compression valve are the only machined bits, everything else looks to be hardware.

Chop, Yahman, I sent you PMs....

          And I like machining billet

          t6061 or t7075

What would be required to make the Intimidators for the XS11 then?

Billet is nice too, but it's the shiny gold of brass that gets me.

It seems to me that it wouldn't matter too much which one of those materials were used. I wonder why they went with brass though... Aluminum billet seems like it would be a better choice. It is unsprung weight and the brass is probably twice what the aluminum would be.

Somebody's going to have to spring for a pair to see what's different; but according to their website, their valve is different enough to get a patent.

As to the brass construction, the only reason I can see is the abuse they take as the spring seats. Maybe they figured aluminum against steel wasn't a good idea; brass is quite a bit harder and is still pretty easy to machine.

Im not trying to steal anyones machining fun but, I have a good friend that runs a Swiss Lathe shop and could probably cut us a really fair deal on a batch of these since 95% of their work is already brass... Whats the largest OD of these valves? Unfortunately, his machines only go up to 20mm dia... Cycle time would probably be under 50 seconds....

Dang...too bad he doesnt have the 32mm machine. The remnant from the auto bar feeder is about 12" long and they go to the scrap pile under normal circumstances, each machine (x4 machines) uses about 8-10 bars in 24 hours. You could probably get another 3-4" of usable material out of them if they were removed from the bar feeder and load manually. Thats a lot of brass that would go for scrap that could be potential parts!

The race tech ones for the XS are 26.5mm OD.

26.5/19.5/13.5mm - I assume that 26.5 is the OD, 19.5 is the recessed crown OD and 13.5 is the depth. Need to confirm that with a set in someones hand.

Race tech used to publish these numbers but no longer do (probably after seeing that people were making their own).
