78e carbs not fueling 3-4

You have a very nice, nearly stone-stock '78. The only non-stock parts I see are the rear shocks, and you're missing the rear turns.

I'm probably biased a bit, but I always though these were the best looking of all of them...

Nice! Looks like you got one with a rare chrome pachage.

There's no such thing as a "chrome" package for the 78 XS1100. The bike looks to be very close to fully stock with factory chrome engine case guards. Nice looking bike that has been running lean by the looks of the upper header pipes. You may want to check that out and make sure the jetting is in fact stock.

No Fuel

Don't know if you got around this problem yet?

If you cover the back of the carb with the palm of your hand, you say there is vacuum right? So is there any fuel on your palm when you take it away or is it dry?

If dry check the diaphragms that pull up the main needle, or the housing that the needle sits in (can't recall what you call it) or the main fuel jet. That is the only way for fuel to get into the engine. On these models the fuel gets sucked through the main fuel jet before it gets to the pilot jet.

You can also make sure that all the butterfly valves are in sync using one of these wires with plastic around them to tie a bread bag or plastic bag. There is a post on this site how to do it.

I have a 78 special and I have spent months on these carbs. It can get tricky.

Well I guess I should figure myself as lucky. I have one that was originally owned by a dealer. All engine covers, clutch cover, cam cover, transmission/middle drive covers, foot peg brackets, rear brake torque bracket, are all chromed. I have seen another xs11 chromed like that ane parts on ebay.
