I know a few of you have found alternative filler plugs to fix the dreaded rounded-out allen, but I thought I'd post my solution. I found a Moose Racing # M0102. Originally for Suzi DR250 '90-'92 and DR350 '93-'94. Comes with a 14mm x 1.25 thread so I ran it through my 14mm x 1.5 die and viola! No more allen. Even comes with a new copper crush washer and a magnetic tip. They go for between 12 and 14 bucks each.

the hard part is getting the old ones out, eh?
There are other ways but I carefully filed 2 flats on mine and broke them loose with an open-end wrench.
I fixed mine by brazing a hex. nut on top but that fancy magnet tipped replacement is way hi tech in comparison.
Theoretically, the thread conversion should not have worked well. How good did it look in practice?Fred Hill, S'toon

That being the fill plug, it will not be in the gear oil so the magnet part is moot. Can't hurt though. Way easier to remove as you pointed out. looks good too.Pat Kelly

Hi Randy,
what f**king photo?
this:- http://home.ptd.net\~theragos\PLUG.JPG
showed up on my reply but is not on my screen with the original post.
Must be the electronic equivalent to a plugged pipe somewhere in the system.
It's that I have had less than stellar results trying to convert one thread to another.Fred Hill, S'toon

Funny you should have that problem, Fred. Well, it's not ha-ha funny, but I have the same problem when I use Firefox. As I was posting this very thread, I couldn't see my photo, then when I switched to IE, it came up. I echo your sentiment---WTF??
Oh, and D P Larmee, yeah, we know they're available, but they all have the dreaded allen!Comment

The fill plug is an allen; the drain plug is a hex head with the same threads. It's the same plug that you remove to drain the engine oil, and both middle and final drives.1980 XS 1100 Standard
