I don't know where it came from, but the PO put a hex bolt on my final drive, and it works great. Maybe a short, non-magnetic one would be best. Shouldn't be hard to find.

I've looked at the over-the-counter plugs, but all the ones I found had a large flange, too large. If you find out where yours came from, please post it.Comment

FWIW......
i at one time used the red ball off a paddle ball toy to keep oil from spitting out at me.... it was soft enuf to "squeeze" in the filler hole, yet firm enuf to not pop out. TEMPORARY fix.....'81H (my first XS ) "Grey Ghost"

Here she is installed in the final drive. The clearance is too tight to get a socket on, but there is plenty of room to get it finger tight and snug with an open end wrench.

Add paddle ball to tool kit for next trip. Temp filler plug, swat flies, tournikit, pass time in camp.Pat Kelly

This one is a replacement from Partsnmore.com (part # 15-0014 on the "engine" tab for the XS11), but it is the same head and thread size as factory. I put a factory one in another bike after I stripped the original plug. It worked great so I ordered a bunch of them from partsnmore for my other bikes.1980 XS 1100 Standard

Hey, what ever you use, if you acccompany the bolt with a nylon washer, it will make removal a breeze!Skids (Sid Hansen)

Also, the crush washer off an old sparkplug is just the right size, and maybe a bit easier to find than a nylon washer. Just don't do the gorilla thing when you torque it in.Ken TalbotComment
