      Hi Randy,
Vulcanization is when your blood turns green and your ears grow pointed. Do you suppose the Vulcan nerve grip comes with the makeover or would one have to learn it afterwards?

        Post Haste makes Waste...

I haven't broken a post yet and if I do then I may/may not "man-up" to it like you did.

I did receive a bank of carbs from a member here. The idea was to make a "test" bank of carbs I could swap out if I needed to for troubleshooting purposes. It seems that one carb had both posts broken and a different repair method was used on each post.

To see the pics in "3D" do the following:

1.) Cross your eyes and look for the "third" pic in between the other two.
2.) If that doesn't work, drink another beer and go back to step #1.

Once you've got the 3D locked in then just scroll down the page.

This bank is not in regular service. I'm not that curious as to see just where/when that glob of epoxy lets go and strands me somewhere...

          Lunatic - which carb?

          Lee,
If you posted which carb it was then I missed it. I have a parts set and may be able to send you a replacement. I got the parts cheap to put fix a damaged one so it doesnt owe me anything.

            sold

The fellow took the carbs anyway. Broken stud and all, so I didn't bother confirming which carb is twas. BUT if he's still reading this thread he can get ahold of you about that carb body to swap into the rack.
I wrapped them all up in plastic bags, taped them all up, boxed them and off they go. Hopefully he's reading this thread and will get ahold of you for the parts.

              Broken post

Hello Scott, I bought Lee's set of carbs. I was hoping to fix the broken post, but I would very much appreciate if I could get the carb body that I need from you.

The carbs are coming from Watertown SD to me in Peterborough On Canada so they are still in the mail. I will let you know which carb body I need.

              Thanks, David

                What bike?

                David,
Looking at you sig I was wondering if my reading comp had gotten even worse. Are these XS or XJ carbs? Mine will be XS, need to think about year and whether std or special. I am not as bright about what cross references and what doesn't, but once you got them we can figure it out. Depending on your project status and priority it may or may not be free shipping as I am back in MI, and next visit to SW ontario is likely Easter, although three of my sisters have Feb birthdays and they occasionally invite me to their party.
                Have a happy new year.

                  Carb body

Thanks for your reply Scott. The carbs are Mikuni BS34 from an XJ1100. I'll know more when I get the set of carbs.

                    stinky

I had to quad-bag them due to their being stinky. Thye are on their merry way, but it'll take a while. Unless someone can convince Canada to join the union.

Scott, I need Carb body #4

Scott I received Lee's set of carbs. The broken float post is on carb #4. The part # is 10M-14904-00 (the 10M for the XJ1100J model). I checked the XJCD and the XS1100 1978 to 1981 use the same carb bodies.

If you have a carb body #4 I could use it.

                        Thanks, David

Actually no, they are NOT the same. You really need to match the type to the rest of the bank, and the carb bodies are pretty much the same for 78 and 79, but they are different for 80 and newer and on top of that they seem to be different between the standard and special in 80 as well. So you need to look at what type of needle valve, float and whether the pilot circuit is plugged or not. While you MIGHT be able to get another year body than the rest of the carbs in the bank to work, you WILL have trouble getting it tuned in correctly if you do.

Believe me, save yourself a LOT of trouble and either fix the post (there are several methods that have been shown to work) or get a body that matches the rest of them.

                                G'day b.walker5,

Not likely that a lot of people did see the pics in 3D: On this side of the equator we can cross our eyes ok, but we don't have the good beer that you do.

Pics were taken with an ordinary camera. Only difference is that instead of standing there and shooting the one shot with my weight centered, I shifted most of my weight to my left foot, pushed the button, then shifted my weight to my right foot, and pushed the button a second time.

It's called the "Cha-Cha" technique. What it does is give you two different pics with about a 2.5 to 3 inch separation between the two positions. That's around the standard separation between our eyes. No tripod or special equipment needed. You'd think that it would be a lot more difficult to make a 3D picture but apparently not.

For the real close up shots of the posts I had to "toe-in" the camera a little for each shot but most of the time one keeps the camera pointed straight ahead and just move it from side to side.

After downloading the pics to the computer there is one more step: run the pics through a FREE program that puts them side by side and saves them that way. I've saved the links to some good "How-To's" and The software which puts'em side by side: PM me if you want them.

Next best thing to having someone shove a carburetor one foot in front of your face, eh?
