fow now, I'll keep frequenting my OK stations that post "no ethanol". I would hate to subject a 32 year old bike to food it doesn't have a stomach for.

WOW ... you still have those???

Living in the "corn belt" there's not a station around that doesn't have 10% ethanol .... and it looks like we're going to 15% soon. I'll be looking to convert like 6 cycles to run on corn or really really big batteries.

I guess I can always make vroom vroom sounds myself while riding a silent mobile ..... sigh.

Ok, after soaking this replacement seal in acetone for one day, the results not so good. The seal swelled up rather large. Gasoline, OK. Acetone, NG.

          A full tank later.....

and the gasket still feels nice and rubbery

My MPG went up 2 to 24 mpg, however, there needs to be a few disclaimers to that claim:
          • I did more highway driving on this tank, whereas previous tanks were mostly in town
          • I had seafoam in this last tank, would the hotter burning increase mileage?
          • It's getting warmer (good and bad here, b/c my idle is way to hi, once it is completely warm 2k idle
          • While I'm driving a little more aggressively, I've also become more accustomed to shifting on this bike.

          So far, a great mod.

            Link?

Does anyone have a direct link I can use to get one of these tank gaskets? I need to replace mine on my 79 Standard 11. Thanks.

If your asking about the Felpro one I used, any auto parts store probably would have it. The felpro number and the Autozone number are one and the same. Phil posted an application for a Toyota your parts store can look up.

If your interested in the OEM type, then Mikes XS site has them.

Darn, I forgot you're on extended leave from the bike.... But this would be an age thing as much as anything, so it's still good to know. Thanks!

Ohhh...Ive put a few mile son here and there. Been through a tank or three of fuel. After all, after you fix something, well it has to be checked. Adn then there is the runs to get fuel when the tank is looking dry, or to fill it for winter and add the stabalizer, or just because SWMBO is away at her mom's for the weekend!! (She leaves tomorrow for three days!!) Gives new meaning to that old phrase "I hate to see her go, but I love to watch her leave!!".

So it has had plenty of fuel sloshed around it, and a filled tank or two. And given the time exposure to the fumes, should be a good testiment to its longevity.
