      Seal

oldyam80sg, if the auto zone does not have it tell them to order it from the hub store. I work part time at auto zone, so if you can't get one let me know and i will get one from our store.
      Thanks Tom

Best thing to do with these parts stores (for motorcycle application parts) is to find their part # of what you need on your computer, write it down, then go to the store and say "This is your part #, give me one of these, Jerky" I do the same with Yammarobber too.

MikesXS just told me that their gas cap rubber seal part# 20-0036 fits XS1100SG's.
does anyone know if those are the same sized gas caps as the SF?

Its funny you should that because last year i bought a handle bar switch from them for my SG and they wanted no part of me when i told them it was for an 1100.I don't know why they would tell you that,a lot of members hear will tell you the same thing-don't mention an XS1100 when you talk to them.

Another thing while I'm at it.DGXSER went and found a lot cheaper solution to try and fix this -the very least we can do is to try his suggestion before looking for the easy way out.I'm sure when he made this thread he was thinking of his fellow XS'ers when he posted this.I can say look on e-bay but by the time you search for this part you can try his fix.

Yes, it will fit. I ordered one of those rubber seals from Mikesxs 2 years ago, and it's started to crack already. Note to self: Don't by rubbers mfg. in China.

Mikes XS has a replacement that works on the specials. I put one on Little Mo.

I didn't mean to derail any part of this thread, it's fantastic that DGXSER found this part to work on our gas caps.
It great having more options as our bikes get older than 30 years, with fewer affordable fixes for them.

I'm still fixing everything that went wrong after getting fuel in my oil from leaving my petcocks open of over the Xmas break. $$$$
Every time I work on it though, I dig a little deeper, and learn more and more.... thanks to everyone here!!

Mikes XS does not want us to tell him they are for an XS1100-he has fits.Last year like i said i called them up and they basically told me that if it is not for a 650 then don't buy it-that's all I'm getting at.Why order something when you can get it locally?

Quite honestly I am not concerned with where someone gets their parts, though I appreciate the pat on the back Oldyam. If your happy to spend the added do-re-me to get the OEM part, then go get it, won't hurt my feelings at all.

Honestly, the replacment part I found has not yet been fully fuel tested, it may not last 2 months, or it may last two decades. So far, it has held up to fuel and acetone.

I'll for sure try the thermostat gasket fix, its a nice and cheap thing to try.
I'm curious about how it'll hold up in time too, compared to the OEM seal.

My interaction with MikesXS was via email, and they simply stated:
"Fits XS1100SG/SH but we do not know about SF."
There was no attitude, maybe a different person handles the email than the phone?

When i called got a guy who was very nasty to me.I wont deal with them again.I'm curious if it will stand up to fuel as well.We experiment all the time with parts dipped in 95% acetone and you should see what that dose to certain rubber materials.
