Pacifico Fairing

I'm thinking of fitting a Yamaha/Pacifico fairing to a UK spec '78 E.

Anybody got any tips on fitting it and riding. I've never ridden a bike where I can't see the front wheel.

Do you have the factory mounting bracket? Once you have that, just bolt it on and ride! Of course, you'll need to do some wiring changes for the headlight/signals, but that's all part of the pigtail.

Don't worry about not seeing the wheel - once something is that close, it's not worth worrying about anyway. I LOVE riding with a fairing, and from what I've heard, the Pacifico one is the best (though I prefer the look of the Vetter). Since the Pacifico was originally designed specifically for the '78, it should fit right on with no problems.

most of the time is spent at highway speeds and is much easier on the body sitting behind a fairing.

As for mounting. Mine had rubber waashers about 26mm across. (total 4 bolts/4 rubber washers/8 metal washers) I replaced them with a strip of 3mm thick rubber same width as the frame and the full length of the mounting area.
If I put my other Vetter on one of the XSes will do same.

i just got my new fairing and am working on getting it painted to match the rest of the bike.

I have a Vetter on the bike now, and can't wait to get my Pacifico back! The Vetter works, but the Pacifico works MUCH better, IMHO. Yamaha had TWO brackets to hold the fairing on, and they worked very well. The fairing puts the headlight out about 10", but has a better shape for the wind. In '78, when I had my full dress, I could STILL cruise at 125 MPH ALL day long with throttle left over.
I DO have some photo's of the mounts if you need it.

Saddo I am planning to mount one of these pacifico as well , we should work together and post, albeit from the otherside of the world. If you go to catatonic bugs website he has the manual in pdf format , but no pics

The English winter is on its way so I could really use the extra protection a fairing gives right now.

I've got both brackets, rubbers and lowers to fit. Just a matter of getting round to it now.

Do you have the big 6 gallon gas tank? If so you might have a problem fitting the fairing around it. If you want to trade to the smaller 5 gallon tank, let me know.

I have that Pacifico fairing with lowers and the 6.5 gal tank. It fits fine.

Big Tank

Yep, I've got the big tank. I've had a trial fit and the electrical connector is too-near the tank to plug the loom on to it. I've unclipped the connector and pushed it into the fairing and connected the loom to it in there. I'll get a grommet to stop any water ingress (big problem in the UK).

So I picked my fairing today and the brackets , what size bolts do I need to mount it ?

I'd just relocate the plug to a better location and cover the old hole, it works better that way, you can disconnect it whenever you need to do any electrical work. In fact I mounted two plugs, because with all the crap I have on my bike, one nine pin plug isn't enough.
