I really like my 880 Metzlers I have put over 10,000miles on my set . The front still looks new but I will be replacing the rear before next spring. At $200.00 for a rear tire it's still a good buy.

I should have mentioned that it was $200.00 installed on the rim and balanced.

Which... blatantly points out that you spend 71 frikkin dollars to get a tire mounted... And also points out that you pay $100 for every 5k miles. You're better off/cheaper with the Dunlop 404's.

Wrong again Tod Work out the exchange rate and plus they don't ship free to Canada that would put me well over $200.00 just for the tire. The metzlers are not much more than the lower quality Dunlops here, it's a no brainer

I'm sure Russ will chime in on this thread, he loves tire threads! The Dunlop Elite III have been a long lasting, corner gripping and great in the rain tire that a lot of people on here will agree on.

Ok Jeremy, I'll chime in. Ivan and I are in total agreement on this issue. After many years, and many miles ridden, I still recommend using ROUND tires. They ride so much better than the square ones. Any more questions?

I have to say that without a doubt, the Battleaxe is the utmost biggest POS tire I have ever had the dissatisfaction of using. I got substantially less mileage than even the Dunlop 404 with these (Just 2800 miles), and the sidewalls are just about as thick and stout as a wet noodle, making for horrible handling and flexing in the twisties.

The 404 are absolute crap also.. but I'd pick them hands down any day of the week compared to the Battleaxes. Just my opinion though...

Nice input there SloMo..........cracked me up!.........Interesting take on the Battlaxx's as the BT20's as a radial are real popular for the ST's. From 81, I've run just about everything out there over the years on my XS, last being Metz's ME33front and 88 rear. Now I have put on 404 Dunflops. Work good bike very stable and predictable, and for 76bucks a pop locally and 10bucks for mount and balance, could care less how long they last. Back when bike was new, used to run the Conti twins(K112/RB2) on my Venturer and I can tell you that these tires were absolutlely bar-none the best riding, handleing, carved like they were on rails wet or dry(they love rain and wet) and the XS's loved them too(neighbor had a then new 11Special running same tires), but now looks like only would be available for the Special for the 16" rear. For me riding way more aggressive then than now was good for bout 6000mi rear/ 10,000mi.front, but they were definitely beyond capability of the bikes handleing. Also used the Dunlop Elite2 when it FIRST came out back in 81 and Dunlop's WRITTEN warranty for 10,000 miles. After that first year Dunlop dropped any mileage warrenty.........Hmmmm, wonder why as in XS11's, KZ1000's, GS1100's, etc.

I'm totally confused now , with all this talk about the D404's being crap and all. I still think they are a great tire but then I musta got the last good one's? Over 3k miles on them and hardly show any signs of wear. But 3k is pretty low so I'll just have to wait and see. I am a pretty aggressive rider and I do like the way the D404's do grip, especially in curves. And I run them at both 40 psi.

One other little note on S-11's. I put 110's on the front of my 79F - sufficient room, slightly bigger contact patch, and I like the look better. JAT
