Need new shocks

I ended up going with the shocks from MikesXS... at least until I can afford the Progressives.

I just wish for my size that they had a bit heavier springs in em....or like progressive offered a "heavy duty" spring for those of us on the "see food" diet.

If length isn't an issue like it is for Kat, you should shop on Ebay and find a cheap set of the XJ air shocks and try them out. I'm your size, along with a couple more cheeseburgers. I can put 40 lbs of air in them and ride double with someone of decent size on some crappy roads and never bottom out. They'll handle up to 57 lbs of air. Just you riding? Let a little air out.

Yeah, do that and get some switches fo' da bitches.

I do like the idea about hooking into the neutral safety switch, I think that would work, as long as you remember to put it into neutral before you stop. That'd be pretty trick. You could look for a CLASS air pump off an old venture royale.

Kat you need some air shocks with a pump and some switches like the homeboys got. That way you can just hit the switch at a stop and drop the azz end down so your feet can touch.

After giving this some thought and reading some of the other responses...

Kat - If you got the $79 monza traditional or monza sport shocks from Mikes they are progressive.

I am also a shorty, with stock seat and mikesxs shocks, i am only touching the ground with about 2" inches of my boots. I recently went with the cafe racer styled seat/tail and now half of my foot can be placed on the ground. The stock seat is very wide and thick! I know it will be alot of work, but if you went with a harley type solo seat it will help alot. Just a thought. I was thinking about going with a solo seat and bob tail fender next year.

What length shocks did you end up going with Rob?
I went with the 11.5" from MikesXS so that should help a bit in raising the bike without keeping my feet too far off of the ground... but I'm wondering if the 12" would have been okay for me too... I can still handle a stock set up at 12.5", but it is a bit comical when I stop.

I hate to do anything with my seat because it is REALLY a comfortable fit for me... Sure would hate to screw up a good thing there... plus I can't go with a solo seat since my kids ride with me quite often...

I just put air ride off of a 1981 goldwing onto mine it is sweet!!

I went with the 12 3/4" inch ones(Monza Traditional). I wanted to make sure that i had enough space between my rear tire and my cafe tail section. I will have to make the suspension full softness. The roads from Union City to San Jose are in horrible condition Does anybody know how much these mikesxs shocks compress/uncompress per turn? inches, milimeters? I am very curious about that, i am guessing a 1/4" per turn and there are six settings?

Shocks

I bought a set of air shocks at Bent Bike , our local mc scrap yard. They are of off a 80 CB 900 honda. They work great. 11.5 eye to eye.

air shocks are easy..

you guys were talking hydrolics.. that's when you need all the battery's.

it would be a cake walk to set up a air ride bike.

if you can find a gold wing to rob parts off of you are golden..

or it can be done the hard way with a set of air shocks for a car and a small Co2 cylinder to adjust, if wanted that could be adjust on the fly, but you'd need a few more parts.

i helped put an additional airshock on a 4wheeler and it was quite small..
i'm sure you could find one at fleet farm or auto parts store.
