Swapped in parts, mostly. Standard tank (needed more range)
Standard 'trees (needed less trail) MPH speedo from an XS650 (the metric stocker died, this one was to hand)
          CB750 'bars.
The only true "modification" was to install UNIpod air filters. (too much blood loss removing stock airbox)
Last but not least, installed Stebel-Nautilus 139dB air horn.
(Oh boy, they may not see me but I can surely be heard!)

Feel free to click on the links in my signature to see some of the mods. The bike is actually ugly as hell right now from oil leaks and a disasterous master cylinder leak. However, like all build stories, you start from the engine up.

Wow you guys make me feel bad. The only thing I've changed on my 79 XS1100 Special Are the front brake lines to Galfer and later discovered I really did not need them (it was the master brake cylinder and calipers that needed rebuilding.) Everything else is 100% stock including the original Yamaha Windshield. I did recently add a sidecar to extend the riding season with my wife (She likes to bundle up). I am the orginal owner and the bike now has 39,001 miles on it. Mooseman

                              iridim plugs
                              tc fuse box
mikes xs super bright blue head light bulb
mikes buck horn bars - BBB shot filled
mikesxs chrome handlebar cover that holds bars on bike
Kirykan black & silver grips with the stelleto ends
Chrome mirrors with gold accent highway hawk saying...
                              Tkat fork barce
                              Mikesxs shocks
mudflap on front tire (leather black)
4 into one exhaust (think its a mac - black)
1179 bore out kit with heads & valves all redone
TC Bros forwards with brass pegs to match the black & gold
                              Headlight visor
seat & original back rest recovered with marine grade vinyl with the buttons in it - black
tip over switch, headlight reserve light switch & octy removed
2 in-line fuel filters (the brass cone shaped ones)
painted xj motor & tranny etc all shiny black
xj motor has the magneto type charger
best mant free battery i can buy (something like yuma i think)
separated brake lines - front is on its own & so is the back - not linked
mikesxs chome controls for signals & start switch
I think thats it for now

                              - what I would to still do is upgrade the coils to mikesxs green ones, I might make the exhaust a 4 into 2 with 30" long fishtail exhaust with steel baffles. I have an excellent complete original & looks new xj exhaust double walled 2 into 2 to be able to do this. But that 4 into one does sound great though. eventually I might go with the progressive springs on the forks.
                              - Dan
'81 XS1100 LH - Midnight Special - been lookin' a long time for this one.

                              Dyna Coils & wires
                              Mikesxs shocks,controls,& bars (special)
                              ISO grips with stelleto ends
4 into 1 black Bassani exhaust
