Who has brought the front end up (wheelie)?

Yeah.. that's what happened. I was cornering way too far over and the tipover switch killed the motor.. causing my dismount. lol. But honestly.. yeah, the bike had stalled after it was on it's side... but the sound.. Ugh. Imagine all the time spent to make you're sidecovers shiney afters years of neglect. In my case, there was no power tools involved.. just hours and hours of progressively finer sandpaper... delicate re-painting of the letters on it. Now imagine turning that sidecover upside down onto some gravely concrete.. attach a rope.. and pull around a 600 lb gorilla for a while. THAT hurt worse than the arm or pinky.. lol.

SO.. the tipover switch apparently works. The gas cap seal?? Ummm.. not so well.

I unintentionally tested the tipover switch one time some years back..... wasn't real fun.... speed wobble in a long sweeper turn.... welcome to 80's yamaha suspension!

Back when I had my 80g and stock exhaust, a big throttle snap in first would bounce the wheel an inch or two.

Amazing that these bikes will wheelie as a shaftie with maybe 75 hp at the rear. The 11 always amazes me, and I'm sure mine would have ran like a demon at a lower elevation...

The tire hooked up on my V-Max the other day at an intersection when I was launching away from 2 of my friends on other bikes. They said the front lofted a foot or two.. It felt like a few inches to me but I did hear the tire chirp when it came back down on the road...

Always fun standing up a 25+ year old bike...

The way I see it, a power shift bounce does not count as a wheelie.
I did a lot of that sort of thing in my 20's. The first rear tire on my '71 750 k-1 lasted 500 miles. I have little interest in doing it now. I no longer believe that I am immorrtal or non-distructable.

I am going to make a mold of my side cover (off a ’79 F) and will attempt to make some fiberglass replacement covers, maybe even carbon fiber ones if interested. If everything goes well and I’m pleased with the quality, I will offer them up for sale at reasonable cost, ready to me primed and panted. I will make a new thread when I have pictures of the cover ready for sale. Then I will make a batch. So…FYI, if you have a ’78 or ’79 that you need a Rt side cover for, all hope is not lost!

My son had a Suzuki SV650 - all it was good for was wheeles..... so in true form I had to do one to show him Lucrecia was capable ....
he borrowed her later on and crashed heavily resulting in my latest rebuild project and the current colour - guess it does take talent after all

I think there is something wrong with my bike. I've never felt a little front air, even before I did the final drive swap. I think I'll have to check my pick up wires tomorrow...

I've made a couple of carbon fibre ones now, they come out nice but I have'nt yet got the catch right. Someone here made an aluminium catch which i'm going to try to duplicate and mold into the fibre. Someone else was making a fibreglass one as well. Do a search of the threads to be sure your not re-inventing the wheel.

Have i ever wheelied an XS11

Yes! it happened about a month ago and i just caught a ribbon of **** from some Harlet buddies on alot of different levels. We were leaving and i tore out of the parking lot in first grabbed second in a big hurry and didn't dropp the throttle going into third... the front end came up and scared the crap outta me but I played it off like I ment to do it cause it happened just as I past my buddy on his harley... then two weeks later I was with some more harley buddies and we kinda raced into town I passed all of them but new i wasn't doing 80 like the speedo said when we got to town i asked my buddy that was in the lead how fast he was going when I passed him... he said he was doing 125 and I flew by him.

Back in my crazy youth I used to wheelie my RD350 all the time. It was a simple throttle twist in first gear and the wheel was up. I moved up to big bikes from there and wheelies were a bit more work. By the time I figured out how to wheelie my GT750, it was only a week later the engine blew...

My next bike was a Guzzi 850. I found out by accident that if you revved it up and feathered out the clutch it would rise up so gently it was like riding a cloud. My second accidental wheelie happened when I had let the bike sit for a month at a friends place while I was relocating for a job 100 miles away. When I came back for the bike it was running rough from stale gas and I was revving it up a traffic light to clear the engine. I rode that wheelie across a 5 lane intersection. It impressed the hell out of my GF and friends that had dropped me off to get the bike and were following me home...

I have no intention of trying this on a XS11. I've seen it done but, I'm not going to try...

to do a wheelie in front of the kids. They were next to me at the lights so i lit her up a bit for some fun but HF she came up quick! They thought it was cool, but not sure the wife did!
