First time when I just finished re-doing all the wiring and took it for a spin, full throttle on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th gear, and all the front end came up, I did not know until that moment how crappy was my harness and how much affected on performance.
Now I'll do it from time to time just for fun!

BTW I only did that once...it was about 26 years ago when I first owned the bike...it happened by accident...some a-hole was tailgating me in his pickup and wouldnt back offso I down shifte to 2nd and revved it to 5000 rpm's and lifted the front wheel off the ground for a few feet and I left the truck for dead...that was the first time i realized I had more than just a cruiser bike...LOL1980 XS650G Special-Two

After playing around with my V-Max, I realized that I never really pushed my XS...
For example, the reputation of the V-Max is straight line drag power to the tune of 145 ponies. I don't know anyone with a V-Max who hasn't woken up the ponies. I've figured out that as long as the rear tire holds, I can get the bike into a 10mph roll, rev the engine just right in 1st, and let out the clutch just right, and it's "dial-a-wheelie" time. Front comes up almost as easily as it does on my dirt bike. The key is the tire has to stick. Many times it will just burn.
So what I began saying is that with the XS, I never rode it the same way, really. I accelerated fast with it but never really tried the roll-on wheelies and so forth. I should have done some more experimentation with it....
I remember my bone stock 80g would bounce the front end a bit with a 1st gear roll on and my 79sf would not. The 79sf had a 4-1 while the 80g was stock. The stock 4-2 definitely provided a better, more useful bottom end but the 4-1 woke the 79sf up like a howling banshee above 5500.1985 Yamaha VMX12n "Max X" - Stock

Well, when I was young and stupid, I use to wheelie my 850 Special on a regular basis, Gary F can vouch for that. Luckily I lived through that phase and some 25 yrs later, I haven't had the desire to try it on my 1100 Special.

Interestingly enough, yesterday I was on a very winding and sometimes narrow road near my house. I saw a guy pull out on a crotch rocket type bike up ahead and decided to catch up since I was just in one of those moods.
I caught up pretty quick and as he saw me coming he hit the gas good and hard and we played cat and mouse as I narrowed the gap and was right on his tail when we came to a stop sign. He pulls out of the stop sign pulling a wheelie and I just hit the gas and went by him. I think of it like burnouts, if I spin the tires that bad, I need a new suspension setup.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

If I launch just right, I can sometimes get the wheel to stay about 6" off the ground through 1st gear, on rare occasions through 2nd, which equates to about 80 mph with the 750 FD. Pretty good for a guy my size.
I have dumped the clutch too hard a couple times and saw nothing but sky, which was unnerving.
But my favorite is when pulling away from a stop and turning, roll into the power and the front wheel lifts in the corner and if everything is right it stays up as you straighten it out. Even the guys on the Katanas and Ninjas just don't get that one...Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.
