I have K-Ns' pod filters...I know they can be cleaned...I have a can of that filter oil spray stuff but theres no label on it ...so what do I do to clean 'em?

I don't know about the K&N's, but with the Mikes pods I just wash them with Dawn dish washing liquid and warm water. I have a relatively soft brush that I use to rub the soap in good (on the inside and the outside). I rinse them thoroughly then hold them up to my leaf blower and get them as dry as I can. Then I set them in the sun 'till they're completely dry. Then I put them back on the bike and start getting them dirty again
. They say every 10k miles for cleaning, but I think they get dirty faster than that. The Mikes pods are oil-able, but I just install them dry.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Max, you could also buy a K+N filter recharge kit at an auto parts store for about $12. It comes with the spray oil and spray cleaner, enough to clean and re-oil the filters, many many times.2H7 (79) owned since '89

You sack up, march in the house, look your wife right in the eye as you open the dishwasher door, put the filters in the top rack.. put in some soap. close the door and start it. You then lean against the dishwasher door, cross your arms, look her dead in the eye and say, "You got a problem with something?" As soon as her mouth opens to start to speak.. say in a loud commanding voice, "I DIDN'T THINK SO!"

I am the King in my castle...no wife to answer to so anything can go in the dishwasher...LOL...problem is my kitchen is gutted for remodelling...hence no dishwasher...but I can wash 'em by hand..and or try the spray method...Ben,

Ben, you can also just get a good can (Like B-12) carb cleaner and spray them down. You won't believe the amount of crud this will knock out of them... but if you leave them installed when you do this, all that stuff falls onto the engine and is tough to wash off.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

One thing to remember is to not clean them too frequently. Every wash removes fibers from the filter material reducing filtration. Yes, the oil helps, but it can't replace the filter material. This is one reason I prefer the foam pods.'81 XS1100 SH

I just don't agree with that statement at all. If you have some sort of paper for a filter element.. maybe. And maybe if you were taking them to the car wash and using the high pressure sprayer on them, but even that, I think, is just forcing open the holes in the filter material, letting bigger particles through, not removing material.
Sorry, but it just seems patently wrong to tell someone to NOT clean their air filter very often. I think on a good quality filter, you should be able to clean them gently HUNDREDS of times with no ill effects.
