  • Do you have to rejet with pods???

I am sick of the air box for messing with the carbs and i was wonder if I would have to rejet the cabs with pods. I have a stock exhaust if that helps.

I would leave the airbox, what exactley is the problem you are having with the carbs?

airbox is in the way for taking the carbs in and out, and like so many other people on here i have had my float get stuck and gas goes everywhere and its a pain to take the box off when it is full of gas. Also I am going with the cafe look and pods really help that look.

There is no concrete answer to that. Some guys end up rejetting and some say they are able to adjust the carbs to them.
This will probably start a big debate about this but thats what we are here for right?
I have both and have run them both on the same bike.
I didnt feel the need to rejet.
I did reinstall the airbox after I got my carbs right.I personally think it looks better.

You should probably rejet. Mine would run OK on the stock jets, but seemed a tad lean on the top. More air needs more fuel I guess. I am still fighting a dead spot on the low end, but after this weekend I am not so sure its all carbs now, so dont ask me about the low end, you'll get an earfull of frustration.

Would the ones that Mikexs sell are the ones i am looking at. Anyone have experience with these and the jetting ,if any, is needed? I really dont want to mess with the carbs because they are just fine out side of the float getting stuck some times...

The main jets we use are commonly refered to as "Mikuni large round". Any reputable cycle shop should have a selection for around $2-$3 a piece. I have a 4-1 exhaust with a straight through glass pack, pods and a white wall rear tire ( dont even ask....) and I am at 120 on the mains. I have an 81. the 78-79s used bigger jets. That is 4 steps up from stock. It seems to be about right, and pulls hard on the top end. Maybe that will help. Jetting does take a considerable amount of mysticism to get right.

i think I am going to get some cheap ones and see how they work out. Do you guys know what size i need to get? Also where does the vacuum line hoses go then?

                  Hi oddball,
deep sixing the airbox in favor of individual filters turns an hour of frustration & bloody knuckles to prepare for removing the carbs into a minute's work with a screwdriver. It also makes a magical carb fix. Since swapping to pods my carbs have not needed to come off. Because the carbs are no longer supported by the airbox I rigged a support arm between the carb joining rail & the frame to hold the carbs tail ends up.
                  Hi Joe,
I used UNIpods and upped my main jets to 115 from 110 which seems to work OK. My son fitted 3 of Mikes tapered pleated pods with XS on the backplates to his XS750 and they seem to work OK with no jet changes.

I would go with Mikunis over knock off jets. The quality counts when the difference between sizes varies by less than a thousandth of an inch.

Also, there is no way to tell you exactly which ones you will need. it is a trial and error process.

Only hint I can offer is to only change one thing at a time. I.E. dont change main jets and adjust float levels at the same time. adjustments all effect each otherr to varying degrees, so dont do several at once.

Like I said there is a fair amount of mysticism involved in getting it right.

Sorry I meant cheap pods. I did not know what size pods that I would need.

I used some cheap EMGO pods. I got 4 of them for $25 off craigs list. Search "El cheapo" for the thread on how I did it.

trust me brother i know aaaaaaaaaall! about the "airbox wars" , the only reason i say it is because the aggravation that can ensue from trying to tune the carbs after airpods are installed. BTW i have pods right now
