The bottom two would be the same for all three calipers I would think.

The upper ones I'm not certain, will look tonight to check though.

Brian - On the rear brakes the clips are attached to the bracket that the caliper attaches to. Part #5 in this diagram. Those are the clips that are relatively easy to get and come with the partsnmore Part#29-3522, which is the correct part for and 80SG rear brake.

I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Thanks, I checked last night and at least the rear seems to be intact with all working parts. The spring clip looks like it would work in the front but the retainers are definately different.

Brian - I was just over at my bud's place, and he swears up and down he's got a set of calipers for a special with the clips. We went through his warehouse, and couldn't find that bike, but we sure looked at a bunch of others (man, I start drooling everytime I'm over there ). Anyway, he thinks they might be at his house, and is going to check tonight. You're probably asleep right now, but I'm sure you'll be posting when I'm snoozin'. This northern hemisphere/southern hemisphere stuff is pretty funny .

Thanks for that, believe me when I say It's appreciated. I'm between 4 to 6 hours ahead of you guys, depending on what side of the country your on, but i'm on the other side of the date line, meaning that today is Wednesday for me and I think it's only Tuesday for you guys. I could make all sorts of jokes about being "a day late and a dollar short" but i don't want to offend anyone with my sometimes warped sense of humour.

I've got one more shot with my bud. I was over there yesterday and today. And the day before, come to think of it. Anyway, if he hasn't found the clips by tomorrow I'm going to go ahead and send what I've got. Just wanted you to know I haven't forgotten about you.

                b.walker5,
dbeardslee will send the parts to me, and I'll put them in the box I'm shipping to you. It looks as if I'll have to use the "large" box, at $53 US from here to NZ. The good news, it will have just about everything you need to put the bike back in order!

                  better late than never?

ok, I finally got the time in the evening to tear my front end apart, got the wheel off and brake calipers off, found the clip and I'm all set to take the measurements, IF you still need them, if not no biggie, I'll probably do the measurements anyway and see if we can get them posted as a tech tip. Sorry it took so long. A wife, two kids, two dogs, and working for Uncle Sam makes it tough.

Big - definitely measure those suckers - please! I still haven't got the right ones, and as these are getting harder to find than a virgin in a house of ill-repute, somebody's probably going to be needing them in the future. If Brian does the cad stuff and posts it, we'll have them for posterity.

well here's the clip I'm going to measure tonight, tomorrow I'll pull the bigger H shaped one out of the top of the caliper and get dimensions from it.

now mine has two little black strips of tape on them, they add .007" onto the thickness of the plate, and that little bit will add up over time. therefore I'm going to peel it off for measuring.

Everything is in inches not metric. I used Starrett 6" dial calipers and used to do sheet metal work myself, so my measurements should be fairly close (say ±0.005"). If there are dimensions you need that I didn't get let me know and I can get them tomorrow afternoon, I'll also post measurements on the H shaped clip that's in the top of the caliper tomorrow night too.

The top measurement that got cut off when I scanned it is 0.110" and the .039" thick is the thickness of the material. (yeah I failed drafting in high school, give me a CAD program though. . . . . )

Allrighty, I can make sense of that okay, I get to drawing and then make one to see if it fits before posting as a tech tip.

                            Thanks.

Ray / Brian - So far my friend has been unable to find the right clips, so I boxed-up what I've got, and it's headed to Ray via US Mail. I mailed the two rear brake clips along with the h-clips thinking the rear's may be modifiable, and the h's may be too (if they're not a direct fit). As they say in Italy - keepa you fingas crossed.

Thanks Guys.. You've been a great help. Even my wife appreciates it. Apparently I've stopped complaining about the noisey brakes and they're not even fixed yet. Funny, I thought the lack of complaining had something to do with my broken leg and not being able to ride the bike at the moment.
