  • Steering Bearing Replacement

Has anyone changed out the inner race when changing the bearings? My inner race has flat spots.

Yes, the races must be changed if they have flat spots. They're a bit tricky to get out. If you first clean the grease out of the steering stem, you can look down in there and see 2 access points where a tool such as a drift will fit in against the race. Drive them out from these points. It's a bit tricky to get the right angle, so have patience.

Only the upper race land has the notches in it. You will have to make them yourself on the lower race, once you have the race out.

Shoot, I coulda' sworn there were lower ones too. I did 2 of them not too long ago. Do you use any lock-tite on the outer side of the race when installing the new ones so they don't rock?
