rear shock set-up
I have the JCW cheapo $80 shocks but with the factory XS springs on my Standard. On my Special, I have the JCW shocks with S&W 2 piece performance springs. Both set-ups work very well, after quite a bit of modification and tweaking of the pre-load.2H7 (79) owned since '89

This is just the question I was also wondering about. Does anybody or can you use the shocks off of Mikesxs site - they have them in the right length of 12.5" or are they not strong enough to handle the weight etc of the 1100 compared to the 650 & if not, would there gas shocks be okay - they seem to be more heavy construction. I just have the regular oem shocks on my LH & the springs are getting really rusty.'81 XS1100 LH - Midnight Special - been lookin' a long time for this one.

suspenders.....................
well ok.....
at the front I am using a fork emulator kit (FEGV S3301) and constant rate springs from www.racetech.com - using the best quality auto gearbox oil as fork oil (volume as per manual (212ml i think)
the emulators are great once you have adjusted them correctly for your style of riding and prevent that sickening bottoming out of the suspension in potholes or the like (we dont have roads here in Queensland just roadworks) - the performance is v similar to a modern front end.
at the back I'm using units from www.bitubo.com (model WME02) - these have
"micrometric spring preload adjustment" and rebound adjustment - I should have
spent the extra and bought the model with rebound adjustment but there it is.
the object of all this was to make the machine handle in the twisties - its no fun fanging with your mates if they leave you behind....................Bryan H
