  • Will it fit

Forgive my ignorance but does anyone know if an 81 valve cover will fit the 79? Me thinks it will but the part number changes in 81 from 2H7 to 4H3, the trailing numbers are the same (I know that doesn't always mean they are the same part) I always thought they were interchangeable but the different part no. has me wondering.

Yup... all of them will fit. Even the XJ's will... it just says YICS on it though. I think it's just painted and un-painted is the difference... but been wrong before. All the tops of the heads are the same though with the same valve cover gaskets fitting all models.

I've got an 81 special and the valve cover says YICS on it. Weird. Either a PO changed it or they put them on before they actually instituted the YICS system.

Hey Pastor, sounds like possibly a PO switched yours. My 81 special does not have "YICS" on the valve cover. It is a 4RO engine.

Yeah, I think you're right. My engine is a 4RO also and matches the frame number so I know the engine is the original. I guess at some point the valve cover was damaged and replaced.

Yup.. if it says YICS on it, it came off of a Maxim.
