I'm really interested in those header pipes that have the Jet Hot.

Is there any way you could get a good close-up of them? Do they look chrome in person? Thanks.

        Trbig:

        Here's a close-up of the jet-hot coated header pipes:

You'll have to excuse the bugs, I haven't had a chance to clean things up after my ride today.

The coating polishes up nice with aluminum polish (I use Mother's). It doesn't quite look like chrome, but I like the fact that it will never blue or rust.

        Here's a link to the Jet-Hot website:

        Jet-Hot

I think the pipes are coated with Jet-Hot's Sterling Silver coating, but I'm only guessing from what I've seen on the website. I bought the complete exhaust system from MAXIMAN when he switched to the Jardine spagetti pipes on Zilla before he sold it. You could try sending him a PM if you have any questions about how they were to deal with, cost, etc.

          Well,

Sending Maximan a pm may be tough due to his banned status, but I did email him and talk to him about it. I was wondering about the finish. Yes, that was the sterling coat. He said they sand blast the old chrome off before the process and I was hoping it would leave a smooth finish... but I see that they just coat over the top of that.

BUT... like you say... they look much better than some rusted ones would! Thanks for the pics. Very nice restore job.

The finish is a bit rough. I think the coating is on fairly thick, so if one was so inclined, you could probably sand it with some 800 grit or finer and then polish it. I thought about doing that, but decided that the finish looked good enough just by cleaning it up with the aluminum polish. By the time I was ready to put the pipes on, I was getting impatient to just get it together before I missed most of our short riding season.

I didn't know about MAXIMAN's status. That's too bad. He contributed a lot to this forum, and I'll be the first to admit that all the great work he did on Zilla went a long way towards motivating me to take my time and do a good job on my Maxim.
