Thanks, so now since I have already bought and installed the BPR6EIX, what would be the difference versus non resistor? I have NGK plug wires, installed by the PO so can't tell you if they are 5k ohm without taking them off and metering them.

R type would just be considered a "cold" plug. Non R type would be considered a hot plug.
I have heard the cold plugs are a safe plug for nitrous and high boost applications. The cold iridiums fire hotter than a platinum or any other plug so you have increased combustion, and fuel economy/power. And since our motors are hot running motors we wouldn't want to go with a hot iridium. Just upgrade coils and wires and thats all the fire we'll ever need.

Don;t go getting him all confused now!

The R has nothing to do with heat range, that is what the 6 means.

        The R means it's a resistor plug.

If your bike runs fine with the resistor plugs, don't worry about it, it won't hurt anything.

As for your caps, the standard NGK ones are 5Kohm, but there are 1kohm and non-reistor types available. I believe they may say right on them somewhere.

The only time it looks like having resistor plugs AND resistor caps might make a difference, is if your system is borderline on spark to begin with.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

So....... if I meter the plug wires/caps and get 5k ohm then I should change them to non resistor type, right? I am going to take it for a spin in about 30 minute to see how it does.

The thin ends of the electrodes will glow rend hot and cause preignition. Ride a while with this condition and it will erode holes in the tops of the pistons...

Just got back. I like it! Scratched in 1st gear at about 20 mph! Did 50 miles in a combination of stop and go and highway up to 120 mph, against a crotch rocket and WRX! Seems to have maybe a little more zip in it. I say the "R" is for racing applications!

OK, so you guys got me interested and I went out and invested 30 of my hard earned samoleans on a set of BPR6EIX's. Put 'em in yesterday and got a little snappier throttle response. Started old Betsy up this morning, and I will say the cold starting characteristics are better. I putted around on her yesterday intentionally trying to keep the rpm's low. I pulled a plug this morning and while there was a tiny bit of black soot around the end of the plug, the tip itself was clean as a whistle. Now to keep an eye on the mpg's. An improvement there will fully justify the expense.

I don't know if this belongs in this thread but have had an unusual experience with Auto-lite plugs.I stripped a spark plug hole in the #3 cylinder and put a Heli-coil insert in the threads after i had to re tap them.I used an Auto-lite plug and because of the threads not being very smooth(new plug)when i removed the plug for a throttle chop test, the plug and insert both came out.I have since used NGK plugs only in the bike and have not had a problem. The finished threads on the NGK plugs are more smooth.Maybe that has something to do with it.Maybe not,but this is what i experienced.

Last night made a believer out of me as it pertains to the BPR6EIX's. I either had a float stuck or some debris between needle and seat on #1 which was causing a VERY rich condition. I know from experience with old Betsy and conventional plugs that this would cause a badly gas fouled plug that would require maintenance on the side of the road. The iridiums seem to just clean themselves up. Got her all the way home (some 30 miles from where the problem became apparent), and I'm pretty darn happy I put those plugs in.

I also use NGK Iridiums, and they work fine.
