    Big Brake Upgrade

    The floating rotors and 6-pots will be unfazed by the XS11's weight, not to mention the unsprung weight loss....you had better have a good fork brace

      Chop, any idea on a price? Would your little kit work on specials as well as standards? I can't wait to ditch these funky front brakes on my special.

        PSYCH 101

        Hey Psych, The machined rotors and conversion brackets will be right at $350 shipped....you will have to get the Busa 6-pot calipers, they go from 50-100 bucks on Fleabay...The XS11 Master cylinder will do the job. I got my last Busa MC for 60 bucks and came with both brake lines....chop

          Hi Crisso,

          As AlanB has already pointed out. You won't be able to use R1 calipers with the front spoked wheel that you have

          I've already tried it and the wire spokes are wider than the original spokes on the mag wheels so they touch.

          Few pictures here:

          All is not lost though as I found that Brembo's fitted with about 3-4mm clearance to the spokes. The Brembo's are the same as fitted to the Ducati Monster.

          If you want to read the whole gory story it is HERE

          Chop, I get all my Metric ine bolts from THIS ebay seller. He was more than happy to ship internationally to me, just ask him for a shipping price Check out his V-Max kit, I bought one and it had most of what I needed in the one kit.

                There are a few bikes on the UK site with R1 brakes, and my own bike has FZR brakes; directly interchangeable with the R1s....

                Miti's bike;

                My bike; complete with FZR forks and discs;

                These brakes need the "usual" 5/8" (16mm) master cylinder used on almost all twin-disc bikes, instead of the 11/16" unique to the XS11.

                    Chop,

                    I'm always keeping my eye on Yahoo Japan, if I see another one I will let you know

                    This was mine when I bought it from Okinawa, I actually won both but I persuaded the guy to keep the front..

                    And here it is after a long flight, a trip to the painters and then the wheel builders

                      Is that a big job putting FZR front end on the XS???

                        Crisso,

                        AlanB's write-up is HERE. He has fitted an FZR front end.

                        Remember, you will always have the problem with the Yamaha calipers clipping your spokes, you need to use something shallower than the FZR/R1 calipers.

                          Thanks-my main issue is the brakes. I will stick with the XS forks ,maybe new springs, seals etc. will play around with calipers that will clear the spokes.

                              Hi Chrisso,

                              What is the problem with the brakes?..... I have used those calipers on a couple of swaps with great results......

                              Why do you need to change 'em?

                              AlanB
                              If it ain't broke, modify it!

                                Front stoppers are woefull... pads are good-maybe the M/Cyl needs an overhaul? its off a RGV250......or maybe its just not up to the job on such a heavy bike?
                                On the upside, ive just fitted a new 2nd hand rear M/cylinder so the rear brakes are great once agiain.
