  • Replacing rear brake line

I'm getting ready to order stainless steel brake lines for my '78 Std and I have a question regarding the rear brake line. There is a rubber brake line running from the master cylinder (maybe 6") which then connects with a fitting to a thin metal tube, then another maybe 6" rubber brake line connecting to the caliper. When replacing with stainless steel brake lines, do you replace both rubber lines and keep the metal tube in between? Or do you replace the whole thing with one stainless steel line? Probably a dumb question.....

Money can't buy happiness, but it can get you an XS11 and that's a start.

Can do it both ways, I believe the peference is to run just one ss line from mc to caliper. It's bound to be cheaper.

If running one line just route it so it can't come in contact with the rear tire.

All the sets that I have used replaced the three piece rear line with one stainless line.

I replaced mine with a single run of braided stainless. No sense introducing any more joints and potential leak points.

          YMMV

Straight line from MC to caliper does the trick.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Question...what was the length of SS line needed for that? I have an 1100SG and SH but I am guessing the lengths are about the same for other bikes.
