We need more info. Is this the first attempt to start it after puting it back together?..are all the plugs wet? If so, yes, it could just be flooded. Leave the plugs out, and dry them off with compressed air. You didn't say whether you checked for spark? Hook up a plug (after drying) and lay it somewhere on the engine to ground it out (the threads of the plug on the engine metal)...prefereably not next to the spark plug hole, unless you want to trim your eyebrows. Then turn the engine over (a low light environment is best) and watch for the spark. Gas plus spark; it should fire and run.Geno

Did you do the bread wire tie pre-sync? I just did it on mine and forgot to set the master adjuster knob back where it was originally. That gave me a high idle until i turned it outwards.Just a thought.1980 XS1100 SG

Definately
needs to be synched. You can play with it for weeks and if it isn't properly synched it won't idle or run right.....You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

here's what I did
I JUST finished my bike...well..for now. After putting everything back on, it revved up to 4-5k too. Another XSive told me to pre-sync again, turn the idle knob (the big knob between carbs 2 and 3...up front I think on yours) to close the butterflies all the way, put the idle screws to 1/2 turn out and slowly back each one out until the bike barely idles so you can slowly open the idle knob to get it to idle at roughly 1k. It takes some patience, but it worked for me. It helps if you turn the tank around, turn the petcocks on (or prime for me), and plug up your vacuum lines.
Then you can sync and color tune or whatever else you want to do to get her purring.
Anybody feel free to correct me.Last edited by AustinPhoenix; 05-28-2008, 09:29 PM.1980 XS11g Standard - "Ash"
