Clutch Slip?

I adjusted my clutch today as per the manual and it works great until............................when I really twist the throttle the engine revs up but the bike only slowly increases speed. It's almost like having an automatic transmission and it "kicks down" on hard acceleration.

Is this normal or the sign of a worn clutch?

It did but not as bad.

Oh, one other thing...check out some of the oil posts here...see what NOT to use. Being that 11's have a wet clutch. You may have know that already though.

I just changed the oil and filter. PO told me he was using 10w30. I put 20w50 motorcycle specific oil in it. I'm pretty sure the po never changed the oil judging on what the filter and oil looked like. I've gone ahead and changed the other fluids as well.

Sounds like it needs a good cleaning out then......Put some Seafoam in the oil...run it a bit and change it again..could very well clear up the clutch problem.

Just the regular seafoam.....Deep Creep is the spray type. If you read other posts...works like a champ....How many miles on the bike?

The clutch on my 78E was acting weird. Grabby sometimes, seemed to slip a little other times. Adjusted cable and clutch, didn't help much. I followed the directions on the Seafoam can about using it in you oil. Was amazed at how much gunk had been broken lose. The big point is that the clutch feels perfectly fine now.

Shows 54,000 kms. Sea Foam is fairly new up here so I'm not sure if you mean the carb cleaner, fuel stabilizer...................the auto parts store just started stocking Sea Foam products and I think there are 4 different types on the shelf (last time I was there anyway) It seems strange that it works so well and pulls strong when driven normally but as soon as you let loose it starts to slip. Maybe that's a wet clutch thing.

Seafoam does a lot of things...You can add it to gas...oil...use it as a stabilizer....etc. Sounds like about 30k miles on the bike? Could be the clutch springs or disks....I'd try the seafoam first....could clear it right up.

If the seafoam does not clear up your problem then you might consider servicing the clutch. It is not that hard to do. You can add another steel to take up on friction plate wear and a new set of heavy duty springs are cheap and easy to install.

Stay with the dino oil as synthetics seem to be a bit too slipery for the clutch.
