  • Master cylinder's TOAST!!!

Well, concurrent with the advice found in the tech stuff, I figured it'd be a good idea (FIRST mistake) to change out the brake fluid in my beast. Front brakes went well, everything cleaned up and flushed/bled out perfectly.Front brakes now work like brandy-new.

REAR brakes, however, are another story. Ended up having to pull the whole cylinder out, remove the plunger, and clean/buff the inside of the chamber to remove rust deposits and debris(AKA "SPOOGE"). Upon assembly, apparently things didn't go quite right. Spent a whole day using various methods of bleeding, until I couldn't stand it any longer, and re-pulled everything. Found a tear in the stupid plunger, so it's kaputskie for that. Goin in the morning to try to find another good master cylinder at the bike graveyard. HO-HUM...lesson learned. CHA-CHING...

OMG am I glad you posted!

Was at Sunnyside Yamaha today and they wanted 62.00 for one! Before i could stop myself, I said to the guy, "Are you F-ing SERIOUS?!?!"

$62 for 2 pieces of rubber, a spring, and a couple clips?? Cheaper to buy 4 pair of sneakers and drag my feet!!

Thanks man, I appreciate the info. I do believe, however, that our local bike shop (run by a good ol' boy) will have something I can use in the interim. There's quite a large bike graveyard out back and the owner, Paul, routinely looks at what you have in your hand and says "For that? Five bucks, man"

Gotta get the ol girl out and about tomorrow, so I can spend the week cleaning and shining for the Caneadea, NY Odd-balls and Old-dogs bike run...mostly a Jap bike gathering. My first of the year and I intend to go show-off my Rat-rod in all her flat-black and shiny aluminum glory...

GOnna get the tank mural-ized...thinking a fire scene with a ladder truck pulling a a child out of a 5th story window while flames and smoke rise up the sides and curl around on the top...find the right artist and I think it'll really rock!!

How the heck do you include a quote, including the original poster, in a reply? I didn't quite get it right above.

At the upper right hand corner of every post there are 2 buttons one is "edit" and other is "quote". The edit button is for your own posts only and with in a pre set amount of time. The quote button is for quoting what someone else has posted

Rob, I did hit that quote button but it didn't wind up in the same form as yours did. No (originally posted by, and bold quote). When do you hit the quote button?

When you added your post did you remove any of the text that is part of the quote. If not it should work. I alway drop down a few spaces as well but that should not make any difference.

Yes, I only included a portion of the quoted post. But I see folks do that all the time.
See previously EDITED post. Don't think I've used that feature either!

If your only going to use a part of the post to be quited you will have to move the "quote" and "bold" indicators to the the front and back of what your quoting.

Be weary of using old mc plungers. The first thing I do is throw the old rubber away. (no not that rubber) I was riding to school one day when I lost my rear break and fluid shot everywhere. It was an old Mc plunger rubber that I did not replace. I lost a little paint along with rear break controll that day. Jsut order the cheap kit and wait a while. Spend some extra time to make sure the lines and calipers are CLEAN. Dissasemble EVERYTHING. IT does not take that long. Dot 3 brake fluid is designed to absorb water unlike the silicon based stuff. Over time your caliper pistons will rust and then eventually your calipers themselves will get damaged. Also, Its worth the extra time to clean and prep your bike for the miles ahead.

The ride is officially known as the 3rd Annual Odd-Balls and Old-dogs Motorcycle show and ride at the Red Barn Country Mall in Caneadea, NY, at the corner of state routes 243 and 19. It runs Aug 18-19, and is being put on by No Budget Productions.

                              Here's the rundown on activities...

Sponsored by Bears Repeating, NTA Cycles, Pioneer Motorsports, Foxy's BMW's, Arkport H-D, Tyler & Magee, Bob's Buell Barn, Oddball Old Dog, Harris Custom Homes, Rose's Exhaust Service, Fillmore Collision, Alpha Graphic signs, LL Bean Attorney's, Perry Cycle Works (That's my man Paul), Creekside Millwork, and BFC Cycle from Kirtland, Oh.

Questions can be directed to 585-610-8721.

That's all directly quoted from the flier I pulled out of the shop at Perry Cycle Works.I know it sounds like a commercial but that's really all of the concrete info I have at this time. I know Paul at the bike shop says it's a real good time and well worth the cruise. Sounds to me like there'll be a lot of showcase items to cruise and peruse.
