I was just reviewing the old tech tips, and found one about the Barnett clutches, just that he said that they are not flat!?
This could be possibly due to the aluminum base of the frictions, but I remember my OEM frictions were very lightweight, so I think they are also aluminum instead of steel, so not sure why this person(many years ago) experienced warped plates???
As for the dimples, perhaps Barnett didn't put any on there to increase total contact/friction area between the plates. The frictions should still be slotted, so oil should still be able to flow between them. But perhaps this is also why they are reported to be stickier, less likely to separate due to strong fluid adhesion!?
Good luck and be careful putting the starplate backin!

Double and triple check that all the screws are out, but you're on the right track. Sometimes these are just really stuck. The last one I had that was like this, I doubled up some strong twine, ran it through the clutch cable hole and tied the twine into a loop. Then I used a hammer handle through the loop to tug on.. it finally popped off.

This isn't going to give you the complete picture since this motor only has the kickstarter shaft, not the other gears involved, but the shaft and spring go here....
Like so....
