HMMM ... Maybe it would be easier to put a single drop of JB wield right at the end of the stand pipe and make the new hole at the top of that tube. What real difference would it make so long as that tube is subjected to the right sized restriction?

      RE: float bowls 79F

Part numbers of the float bowls for #1, 2 & 3, and 4 are different.
Checked 80G numbers and they are different too.
From looking at the bowls never noticed any phisical differences so it could be the jet.

2G2-14981-32-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER EXCLUSIVE FOR CARBURETOR 1 1
2A2-14981-32-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER EXCLUSIVE FOR CARBURETOR 2, 3 2
2H7-14981-32-00 BODY, FLOAT CHAMBER EXCLUSIVE FOR CARBURETOR 4

Because of the way I take apart my carbs, bowls have always gone back on there respective carb....but have a set on the shelf for the MNS with the bowls off and have not a clue which ones they go to. Would think there would be an identification on the bowl to differentiate them but never noticed one.

I too was fooled by these holes thinking in was a big bore all the way from the gasket surface to the bowl. WRONG!

The hole in the pressed in pilot is very small. I had to use a small wire feeler gage in mine as copper lacked the strength to poke through (the gage size escapes me at the moment). I filled the hole with carb cleaner and kept poking the hole from the top until I saw fluid run out into the bowl, telling me the pilot was now open. I worked the wire back and forth several times and let the carb cleaner soak before reassembling

Once reassembled, I added some Sea Foam gas treatment to my tank to help continue to clean these pilot holes fully. Made all the difference in the world with the enricher circuit.

Hey MRO .. That's odd that there is no ID marking on the bowls if they are in deed different as appears to be the case. I have always made sure that the carb parts don't get mixed up but I can't speak for others who owed the bike before me.
the only markings I could find are inside the bowls on the angled part where the float towers go. Mine are marked 1-3, 2-3, 2-3 and 2-3

I wonder if these different part numbers are related to where the part originally came from.
The 2G2 bowl is listed as being originally from the XS750 SE & SF. Could the stamp in the bowl mean 1 of 3 ?
The 2A2 bowl is listed as being originally from the XS400D. Could the stamp in the bowl mean 2 or 3
If this is true then I need a bowl that is stamped 4 - 4 because the last bowl number .. the 2H7 number is originally from the XS1100 E & F

I have a few carbs in the shop.
Not sure when I'll be able to get around to it but will check em out. Not sure if I can measure the bowl jet but will see.

Because I don't need these bowls I am going to see if I can get those jets out some how.
